Re: HOVG Class of 2017 Finalists
Is it permissible to ask (and just out of curiosity) how many people were nominated?
That is a great list of nominees.
It is going to be very difficult to pare down.

Re: HOVG Class of 2017 Finalists
I think I've got 8 of my votes figured out already. I'll mull over my decision on the other 2 for the next few months until I actually have to send in a ballot! It is going to be very difficult to pare down.

Re: HOVG Class of 2017 Finalists
Interesting group of nominees. Nice job by the selection committee.
My first reaction on seeing the list of this year's nominees was -
What - no ex-Giants, Jets or Bills? I then looked up each player's career and
found that Todd Christensen did play in 1 game for the Giants in his first season.
19 of the 20 (not Dave Grayson who played 6 years with Oakland and 4 for the Chiefs/Dallas Texans) played their entire career with just one team although 8 of the 19 also played one season with another team.
Of the players' primary teams there is a good distribution among the other teams with
Dallas, Detroit, Minnesota, New England, Oakland each having 2 players
and Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Cardinals, Green Bay, Kansas City, Miami,
Pottsville, San Diego, San Francisco each having one.
There were 3 players from the two-way era (G. Christensen, Gutowsky, Latone).
Of the other 17 only 6 were primarily offensive players - T. Christensen, Clark,
Gray, Morgan, Reeves, Skoronski).

Re: HOVG Class of 2017 Finalists
it is unlikely that 11 people nominated five completely different playersChrisBabcock wrote:Only 11 of us submitted nominations?
I hope to nominate players next year. I didn't have the time to consider it this year.
Re: HOVG Class of 2017 Finalists
Would have to check with Andy.ChrisBabcock wrote:Only 11 of us submitted nominations?
As you know, in the past if people nominate a player already nominated he'll ask you to send in another name. Don't know if that happened this time around or not. Though 55 / 5 = 11 so "11" would make sense.
For comparison sake, there was 68 names nominated last cycle (2016). It fluctuates +/- a couple people per year and obviously, lets say two people, that makes a 10 nominee difference so it just depends on the year. E.g. year A 11 PFRA members nominate, year B 15 PFRA members, year C 13 PFRA members, etc ...

I keep a 3 x 5" index card under my keyboard.JWL wrote: I hope to nominate players next year. I didn't have the time to consider it this year.
When I am reading and come across someone who is perhaps worthy I note him on the card.
Makes it easy come nomination time.
I already have a few possibilities for next year.
