Maxie Baughan: Canton or Nay?

Ok...Maxie Baughan played in nine Pro Bowls, broke the Eagles' record for single-game interceptions (I THINK that's what it was), and he held some interception and fumble recovery records.

Do you think he should be in the HOF?

The three LBs George Allen brought together in L.A. (and later in D.C.) were my favorite to watch growing up.
I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for Maxie Baughan, Myron Pottios and Jack Pardee.

And Maxie played with (and won a championship with) one of my all-time favorite players, Chuck Bednarik.

So, as much as I want to holler "Yes!" at the top of my lungs I must, at the very least, recuse myself.
Because if it were up to me probably half of the defensive stars on George Allen teams would be in the HoF.

Absolutely yes on Maxie Baughan (5/9/none) for the HoF. Along with Chuck Howley (5/6/none) and Robert Brazile (5/7/70s), he's one of the biggest HoF snubs at the OLB position.

Well, it doesn't matter, it will never come up. Baugan is interesting. I have seen him play some, but not tons, we all know there are not many games, full games out there. Seen plenty of the highlights,

I wonder about his lack of big plays, 18 picks, 10 FR...not that it's a disqualifier, but Dave Robinson had 39 TOs (27 picks) Howley had 25 picks and 18 FR.

Not that I am against, but there are some LBers, I think are a bit more deserving, Pro Bowls notwithstanding.

Baughan was the signal caller/"Bill George" for George Allen's defense with the Rams, which was unique for an OLB. He was one of the LBs featured in the late-1960's "Great Linebackers of the NFL" book that I proudly own, and his accolades show that he was respected during the time period in which he played. I don't know a whole lot about Baughan, but he seemed to be a "glue guy" who didn't have great physical attributes and didn't make a ton of game-changing plays. Perhaps he was the NFL version of Larry Grantham in certain respects. I have always put Chuck Howley above Baughan on my "HOF Snub" lists, because Howley remained extremely productive when Baughan's career tailed off, and Howley had 49 turnovers (including postseason) compared to Baughan's 28.

I am beginning to wonder of a couple earlier "corner LBers" aren't as or mor deserving... Fortunato, etc...

I think Baughan getting in would be fine, but I agree, if that era I have Howley on the top of the list of OLBer passed over.
