I also like using PFR.com's Advanced Passer stats like Rate+ etc to evaluate this. I don't mind what ESPN did and actually enjoy it but I find Rate+ overall to be a bit better as it encompasses more numbers than ESPN just using TD-INT ratio relative to era.

His concept of "the league share" of statistics to measure across eras is interesting. He doesn't make any mention of the number of teams in the league across eras which would put today's QBs at a disadvantage. If every starting QB in the league started all of their team's games and produced identical results, in 2016 they would have 1/32 of the league share whereas in the early 1970s they would have 1/26 of the league share.
