Yes, I thought of Matt Blair as well but what else did he do that game? Like many of these '70s runner-ups I would think a defensive player should be the 'MVP' but as I already said, many SBs won't have any recognizable losing-'MVP'. Thinking of SD/SF SBXXIX, I briefly thought about Natrone if only for his early 2ndQ TD capping off the long 7+min drive to make the game, if only for a fleeting moment, seem like it may be competitive at 14-7. Just 33 yards rushing, however, ought to make this one of those no-losing-MVP teams.


As for a notable (statistical, at least) performance on a losing team, how about Andre Reed in both losses to Dallas?

Had Lambert not picked off that pass that led to the clinching touchdown in the final minutes, it most likely would have been. Of course, from a courage aspect, Jack Youngblood might have gotten some support.

Yeah, Ferragamo is who everyone first thinks of when that Rams SB comes up (and Wendell Tyler and Bill Waddy not too shabby performances) but JY is also who I'd pick, at least at-heart. And knowing that he then went on to play in the Pro Bowl the following week! Those were the days. Another worthy mention (maybe more-so than Tyler or Waddy)...Jackie Slater.

I think IX has to be Blair. The offense didn't score and Foreman fumbled on the 5 yard line. The defense was only marginally better than any other Vikings SB defense. The only thing they ever did well in a SB is block punts, why not Blair?

XXVIII- Probably Reed. Jeff Wright had two sacks, but they were for minimal yards, and Wright wasn't able to bring down Emmitt Smith on 3rd and 3. Emmitt broke away for a 15 yard touchdown that gave the Cowboys the lead.

XXXI-Willie McGinest.
XXXII- Antonio Freeman. Levens is also worthy.
