Weird play in 1989 Bucs-Lions game

Post by Bryan »

In one of the last games of the 1989 regular season, the Lions defeated the Bucs 33-7. The weird play took place on the last play of the game. The Lions were leading 33-0, and the Bucs had the ball at their own 31-yard line. QB Joe Ferguson (weird, huh?) dropped back to pass, then threw short to WR Mark Carrier. Without any trickery or laterals, Carrier simply ran through and around all the Lions defenders and scored a 69-yard TD.

Can anyone recall a successful 'hail mary' play that was a short pass and the WR ran a vast distance to the endzone?
