Montana/Romo '92/'16 parallel

Post by 74_75_78_79_ »

Not comparing Tony to Joe (although Tony will go down as a Great) but here he is, for a 13-2 team (like SF was in '92 going into finale vs Lions), playing against an already-out-of-it (Eagles) team en route to an AFC West team (considering he, most likely, will go to Denver as Joe to KC). Thoughts?

I don't think Tony Romo will "go down as a Great" quarterback.
With historical perspective he might go down as a Very Good QB... more like, well, Troy Aikman than Joe Montana.

Joe also had back problems that precipitated his replacement with a Younger player but Romo has an even more severe problem (multiple surgeries on his neck and collarbone).
Romo should retire. He is a tragedy waiting to happen.

Tony is not a HOVG type. Tony Romo is Don Meredith is Danny White, a good QB but never quite good enough to go all the way.

One can be "Very Good" (i.e. better than "Good") without being a Hall of Very Good "enshrinee."
Sorta like one can be famous without being in the Hall of Fame...

But I agree, Meredith might be a better metaphor than Aikman.
Either which way, he ain't no Joe.
