Anyway, back to Bud...his HOF status was cemented primarily because of the Vikings' run from 1969-77. Here are some numbers for that era:

*46-9 in division play (23-4 at home, 23-5 on the road). Three of the five road losses came in Chicago.

*After the merger, the Vikes were 10-2 at home in games against AFC teams. The lone losses came to Miami in 1972 (in the final minutes) and New England in 1974 (on the final play).

*In 1974, the Vikes were inexplicably 4-3 at home and 6-1 on the road. The three home losses came in consecutive fashion: Detroit, New England and Green Bay.

*The Vikes "struggled" at home during September, with a 7-3-1 mark, but for the remaining three months, racked up a collective record of 44-8. On the road, Minnesota dominated during September and October, compiling a 23-5 mark. For November and December, they dropped somewhat to 22-13.

*On MNF, they were 3-1 at home, the lone loss coming in 1972 to the Redskins. On the road, they were just 3-4.

Bud Grant was a pretty good end for the Philadelphia Eagles for awhile and also played basketball for the Minneapolis Lakers with George Mikan as a teammate. Must have been a good all around athlete before he started coaching.

"Pretty good" is an understatement. He was an all-pro level receiver in both leagues, a good defensive end with the Eagles, and he once intercepted 5 passes for Winnipeg in a CFL playoff game.

I used to be a Classic Rock DJ, and talked to members of a few great bands from the 60's and 70's and we talked about the R&R HOF, and they told me (like the sports HOF's) it often comes down to politics. Many of the people who vote for you for the R&R HOF are fellow artists and journalists who often have a grudge to bear. In fact, I remember a recent interview with a lead singer for a very famous 70's and 80's rock band whose band sold 80 million records who said he was told years ago by one of the people who runs the R&R HOF that his band would never be inducted because they are considered "Arena Rock".
Maybe they think if Arena Football players aren't considered for the PFHOF, the same should apply to Arena Rockers.
