Top-3-QB trio for each franchise and who's #1?
Re: Top-3-QB trio for each franchise and who's #1?
Cleveland is difficult after Otto. You've got Ryan, Nelsen, Sipe and Kosar to choose from. I'm having trouble picking two of them.

Was doing it chronologically. I'll place Ken at #1 with Raiders and meant no disrespect toward Plunkett but numbers, in this case, took over. Really can't ignore he being big enough part on both SB-wins so at least '3b' makes sense if not '3a' or even...(possibly)...#2 period. Gannon was SB-win-capable, but Gruden was simply that much better a chess master (over both he and Callahan combined).JohnH19 wrote:Please don't call him Matty Ice.74_75_78_79_ wrote:We'd all love to put Greg Cook in with Cincy but it'll have to be Anderson, Boomer, and Carson (or could it be Dalton already?).
Raiders - Daryle, Snake, Gannon
Falcons - Bartkowski, Vick, Matty Ice
I would rank Stabler ahead of Lamonica. Gannon and Plunkett are 3a and 3b.
Okay, I'll say Ryan. You're right. After all, 'Ice' would be a better suited nickname for someone better (in the post-season) resembling...Joe Cool. That said, however, if you want to do away with chronology, Ryan may (all '80 Falcons nostalgia aside; do forever love that team; unis as well) still be #1 already anyway. Correct me if wrong.

Plenty of teams not done yet:
Bears: Luckman, then Ed Brown? Wade? Cutler?
Pats: Brady, Bledsoe, then Parilli or Grogan?
Cowboys: Staubach, Aikman, then Romo or Meredith?
Saints: Brees, Archie Manning, and um....Aaron Brooks?
Broncos: Elway, Peyton, then Craig Morton?
Lions: Layne, Stafford, then Greg Landry?
Chargers: Fouts, Rivers, Hadl
Seahawks: Krieg, Hasselbeck, Wilson
Oilers: Blanda, Moon, then McNair or Pastorini?
Jets: Namath, then Pennington and Ken O'Brien?

I know, he was a single-wing QB, but how about Dutch Clark?bachslunch wrote:Plenty of teams not done yet:

Bears: Luckman, McMahon, Wade. Anybody that had even one good year, like Erik Kramer, qualifies here.bachslunch wrote:Plenty of teams not done yet:

Pats: Parilli and Grogan are a toss up. Tony Eason?
Cowboys: I'll give Meredith the edge over Romo.
Saints: Brees, Bobby Hebert then Archie
Broncos: I agree but I love Charley Johnson at No. 4
Lions: Layne, Dutch Clark, Stafford...I guess
Chargers: Agreed
Seahawks: Agreed with Zorn at a competitive No. 4
Oilers: Maybe Moon No. 1. Pastorini a distant 4th. He wasn't very good.
Jets: Agreed
What about the Giants? Eli, Simms, Conerly, Tittle, Tarkenton...probably in that order.

Bears - Cutler in top-3 like it or not, right?JohnH19 wrote:Bears: Luckman, McMahon, Wade. Anybody that had even one good year, like Erik Kramer, qualifies here.bachslunch wrote:Plenty of teams not done yet:

Pats - no Eason, no Eason at all!
Hate to say it (and all you DO correct me if wrong), but wouldn't Romo actually be ahead of Dandy Don (again, it kills me to say)?
Hebert over Archie? Fill me in (no sarcasm, serious).
Chargers...Tobin? Being he was their only Champion QB!
Seahawks - again, fill me in! Was Kreig really better than, my personal Seahawk-favorite, Zorn??
McNair EONS above Past IMO! Yes, I know Dante ran up against the Curtain but still. Steve was clearly SB-win-capable, just never fell into place as it should have.
Jets...should Richard Todd at least get some mention? And how about '98 Vinny?

I wouldn't have Eli or Simms in the top three at all. I'd rank them Tittle, Tarkenton, Conerly.JohnH19 wrote:Bears: Luckman, McMahon, Wade. Anybody that had even one good year, like Erik Kramer, qualifies here.bachslunch wrote:Plenty of teams not done yet:

Although obviously he was a great player, possibly the best in the team's history, I don't think Dutch Clark belongs in any quarterback list, because he was mainly a running back. I know they have a thin group, but I don't think Clark is the answer.

Couple more:
Skins: Baugh, Jurgensen, Theismann
Cardinals: Hart, C. Johnson, Lomax
Eagles: McNabb, Van Brocklin, Jurgensen? Jaworski?
Rams: Waterfield, Van Brocklin, Gabriel
Falcons: Ryan, Bartkowski, then Chris Chandler? Chris Miller? Michael Vick?
Jaguars: Brunell, Garrard, Leftwich
Panthers: Newton, Collins, then Beurlein? Delhomme?
Dolphins: Marino, Griese, then Tannahill? Woodley? Fiedler?
Texans: Schaub, Carr, Fitzpatrick?

I would, too, if I wasn't taking tenure and championships into account. Of the three, only Charley was with the team for a significant amount of time, which is why I had him in my top three. I would have no problem elevating him to first or second. Y.A. and Fran are certainly the best QBs of the bunch but their relatively short stops in NY swayed me.rhickok1109 wrote: I wouldn't have Eli or Simms in the top three at all.
