Is Campbell the only coach in NFL history to be retired by a team that had previously fired him? (The Falcons)
The list of coaches with two different non-consecutive tenures for the same team must be pretty short. Joe Gibbs (Redskins) and Lou Saban (Bills) are the only other two that come to mind at the moment. I think there have probably been more Yankee managers with two different tenures under Steinbrenner than NFL coaches with two different tenures with the same team.

Sid Gillman had an interim gig with the Chargers in 1971 after having coached for virtually of their AFL years.
Bud Grant makes the list, thanks to the Les Steckel disaster of 1984.
George Allen technically made it with the Rams--for two exhibitions in 1978.
Not sure if Ted Marchibroda makes the list since it was two different franchises in the same city.

So Allen is the only other fired coach to be technically rehired, although the fact that he didn't coach a single regular season game in his return makes it questionable if he counts.

What aboy Ray "Scooter" McLean? He was the Green Bay Packers' coach in 1953 and again in 1958 (of course, he was an interine the first time around).

It would be interesting to name also the head coaches who later were rehired as asssitant. ONe example I remember is Dave Campo. He was the Cowboys Head Coach from 2000-2002, then was an assistant from 2008-2011.

He was the Colts coach in 2 different cities and the coach of 2 different teams in the same city.Not sure if Ted Marchibroda makes the list since it was two different franchises in the same city.
Art Shell had another go round as coach of the Raiders in 2006.

Walt Kiesling coached the Steelers 3 times between 1939 and 1956.
