Top 5 pre-Vince HCs

Post by 74_75_78_79_ »

Not assuming that everyone here automatically feels Lombardi is better than all who came before him, but thought it'd serve as a 'dividing line' of sorts. First four decades of NFL, what's your 'Rushmore + 1' of head coaches? Papa Bear, Curly, Paul Brown, Buddy Parker, Weeb, Flaherty and Greasy first names that come to my mind. I'm sure I criminally left some out. Fill me in!

Not much variance between us on this. I'd give Buddy Parker the slight edge over Neale though.

1) Brown
2) Halas
3) Lambeau
4) Owen
5) Parker
6) Neale

Yeah, I'd have to put Parker in my top five. That Detroit team of the 1950s was a powerhouse.

Parker led Detroit to championships in 1952 and 1953, and built the team that won the 1957 NFL title. I also think he should be in there.
