Top 12 NFL Power Rankings, 1991
Talk about '80, talk about '92 (or '70)...well how about this very season? Many arguments to be made on whether certain playoff teams were actually better than teams seeded beneath nor having made playoffs at all. Again like always, this is going into the playoffs with an open mind; not knowing what would actually happen - key example not knowing that Denver beats Houston in the divisional round. As with college rankings, you may allow a little recent history to play a part as well. I'm sure Niners not only barge into your lists, but finish rather high as well as higher than Falcons who swept them early on. Eagles and that historic D should get in as well. Like Bears being better 'power'-wise in my opinion than TB in '79, are they also better than Detroit in '91? What playoff team or teams besides Coz's 8-8 Jets get boxed-out? Raiders and Chiefs ought to be on the bubble; and same with Falcons being that we "wouldn't know" they win at Superdome in the wild card round. Washington, of course, finishes #1 across-the-board, but who then is #2? Bills? Niners? Oilers who, yes, almost won at RFK? '91 a pretty good pick to start a PR thread about. Should have done so sooner. Where does Dallas finish?

1) REDSKINS!
2) Bills - 13-3, defending AFC-champs that almost won that very SB vs Parcells
3) Niners - can't help but to ignore they getting swept by Atl, bury Detroit & Bears, split w Saints, beat KC, beat Eagles at Vet; putting them at #2 is tempting
4) Oilers
5) Cowboys - beat Wash at RFK, Saints, at Philly, and Falcons down-the-stretch when it mattered most
6) Saints
7) Chiefs - beat Falcons, sweep Raiders, bury Buf MNF!
8) Falcons - four quality wins as well
9) Raiders - sweep Broncos, beat Niners
10) Broncos - sorry, only quality wins is their sweep over KC while getting destroyed by Oilers, wouldn't have guessed they avenge them then give Bills a game at Rich
11) Lions - just beating Dallas in an early convincer and splitting w Bears while getting hammered to Wash & SF (no, finale @Buf don't count), wouldn't guess they bury Big D again
12) Eagles - two quality wins as well: @Dal and @Hou, their 10-6 to Den/Det's 12-4 keeps them here, of course finale vs Wash don't count
