I noticed on Dick Stanfel's biography page at the Hall of Fame he is listed only as a Guard and that little mention is given to his lengthy career as an Assistant Coach.

I understand he is in as a player but is it possible that many (of the voters?) considered his enshrinement as (much as with Dick LeBeau) a lifetime achievement award?

Re: Dick Stanfel
My guess is that Stanfel's coaching probably helped some, though I doubt his reputation was anywhere as strong as LeBeau's. His playing career (5/4/50s) was certainly more decorated that LeBeau's (0/3/none), though he doesn't grade out that well at Ken Crippen's site. Reaser has mentioned that film shows Stanfel relied very heavily on leaving his feet to cut block (which wasn't always successful), and looking at the film clips they showed at the HoF induction ceremony for him seem to bear that out.
Question: did anyone from his family speak on his behalf at the ceremony? If someone did, they cut away before they started.

According to the HOF when there were cries for Seau's daughter to speak, they said that family members are interviewed off-stage and that the interviews are not broadcast. Seau's was the exception.bachslunch wrote:Question: did anyone from his family speak on his behalf at the ceremony? If someone did, they cut away before they started.
