1985 produced two more of these. The Vikings and the Oilers, who had a combined six wins in '84, each knocked off the previous years Super Bowl participants (the 49ers and the Dolphins respectively), on opening day. However, they would both go on to suffer losing seasons.

1996 Bears.

Coming off 3 encouraging seasons under Wannstedt (overachieving '93 team, playoffs in '94, prolific offense that almost made it back to the postseason).

They made the big Brian Cox free agent splash.

Thumped the SB champ Cowboys on MNF.

And they never had it better under his watch.

1962 Browns: They beat the defending and again in 1962 Eastern Division champion Giants 17-7. The Cleveland Browns finished 7-6-1 and Paul Brown was fired at season's send.

2001 Jaguars- Coming off a 7-9 season after 4 straight playoff years, looked very impressive in thumping Pittsburgh.

But their season went sideways (2-0 start, but a hideous loss to Cleveland- whom they had never lost to- sent them on a downward spiral for the rest of the Coughlin era), while the Steelers recovered nicely after that early clunker.
