Levy's best KC squad vs Marty's first. Both finishing just above 500. Delaney vs Okoye, Still vs Derrick. Who's best between these two? Were either - or both - actually a better Chief team than the very '86 Mackovic squad that actually did make the playoffs?
Side note - Three different HCs in the '80s did lead KC to a winning record. '70s Rams one better with FOUR HCs leading the franchise to a winning record in that period: Allen, Prothro, Knox, and Malavasi. Any other franchise with four winning HCs in a decade? Or at least three like KC?
'81 or '89 Chiefs?
Re: '81 or '89 Chiefs?
Jets of 2000s had Al Groh, Herman Edwards, Eric Mangini and Rex Ryan lead them to seasons with winning records.

Very good. That one was right under my nose although I do remember Al Groh; and asking myself why he'd leave after just one (winning) year albeit the December collapse and he wanting to go back to his alma mater.JWL wrote:Jets of 2000s had Al Groh, Herman Edwards, Eric Mangini and Rex Ryan lead them to seasons with winning records.

Parcells' abrasiveness and interference did it.74_75_78_79_ wrote:Very good. '81 team beat Denver/Tampa Bay + played the Chargers close. '89 team beat Houston/Green Bay, give the Broncos/Browns fits.
I got to go '81 because they were in a tougher AFC West and tougher conference (The AFC of 1989 gave us the only team since the merger to get a first-round bye WITHOUT 10 wins)

The 1940's Redskins had four head coaches with winning seasons. It seems George Preston Marshall had a tendency to go through coaches. I'm sure WWII was a factor as well.74_75_78_79_ wrote:Levy's best KC squad vs Marty's first. Both finishing just above 500. Delaney vs Okoye, Still vs Derrick. Who's best between these two?
