Hey Guys,
I'm getting some unusual # from different sources for the actual # of turnovers that the Minnesota Vikings defense got in 1971. Can you guys tell me the exact number of turnovers (recovered fumbles and intercepted passes) that the Vikings defense accounted for in 1971? Thanks!

Not sure about the fumble recoveries, but an article leading up to the playoff game with the Cowboys noted that that they had 27 picks and 27 sacks.

Pro Football Reference shows 18 for defensive players and 30 overall. Now, were a couple of those "defensive" FR on special teams. Likely.
Back then they didn't separate defense from special teams. It was just offense or defense. We'd have to get the 1971 gamebooks out to see if Gershbach and Jenke's were STs, possibly Charlie West's too.
But all teams were scored same way, we just have to live with STs being in there.
