PFRA in the news

Post by Ronfitch »

Not necessarily the news, but a blog entry on the Denver Broncos' site about Rich "Tombstone" Jackson joining the Hall of Very Good:

Take notice, researchers and writers, that his blog entry contains this sentence:

"This is a legitimate honor bestowed annually by the PFRA, which does some of the best research on the history of pro football."

Some of? Is any other organization doing research on the HISTORY of football? I'll credit Football Outsiders for going back to the 80's on DVOA, PFF for trying to "grade" SB1, but seriously, is anyone else actually doing anything pre Super Bowl era?

Yes, as a matter of fact there are people out there doing research on the early days of pro-football. I would say that it is some of the most important work that has been done in a great many years. If you have a few hours, spend it reading about some of the new player bios that have been discovered or about the first African American player to play for the Green Bay Packers. This particular story was recently picked up by Cliff Christl of the G.B. Packers.

I know it is a lot to read, but if you are really interested in the history of pro-football, you should find this very interesting.

There are also individuals out there who do or have done research. Not everyone likes to join a group, nor does joining a group legitimize anything. Some people simply do it for themselves.

Several times a year there are stories of "found" caches of information or materials that wow experts, researchers, or collectors. Football is no different. Missing information? Kind of a misnomer. It's not missing. It just hasn't been "found."

In today's episode of "Somebody just won life's lottery":

The downside, of course is that the IRS is going to be his new best friend.
