The coin toss of SB L

I personally found the coin toss the most interesting part of the game. The head referee pointed out that the side of the coin that was gold was heads and the side of the coin that was tails was silver. I immediately thought to myself "well, gee, gold is heavier than silver, in that case, the coins going to come up tails". The Bronco captain's thoughts must have been running in the same direction as mine because he immediately and decisively called "Tails". And of course, the coin came up tails. Not a gambling man by any means, but I wish I could have put a bet on that one.

Interesting though, I generally go with tails anyways but hadn't really thought of the gold/silver factor. Makes sense.

I'd very surprised if it makes any difference. It's not as if the coin were half gold and half silver. It has like one micron of gold plate on all of the gold side and part of the silver side.

In Súper Bowl XVII, referee Jerry Markbreit made a blunder in the coin toss, as Miami had won it but Markbreit said that Washington had (both sides of the coin were similar). Fortunately, CBS cut the transmisión to the stands and another official helped Markbreit to sort it out.

Fout years later, when Markbreit was again assigned to the Súper Bowl, the Tv crew gave him the coin two days earlier, so he could study it and practice in the hotel room. But then in the locker room, when he practiced with another official he again got confused! Fortunately, he got it right when it mattered.
