They've been showing clips of "in the room" all day on NFLN - like they have the past few years.

To add what they've said:

Presenter for Owens said, with emphasis ("you're damn right"), that being selfish was a good thing because she talked to Jerry Rice and Rice told her that he was the same way.

Presenter for Harrison said that Marvin had "better per game stats than Jerry Rice."

Presenter for Pace said his career measures up to Jones and Ogden and added that Pace was a "5-time All-Pro, 3-time first-team."

Presenter for Dungy said: "We (the voters) don't measure coaches by multiple Super Bowl wins. We measure them by impact."

Also of note, NFLN showed Dan Fouts and said he and James Lofton were allowed to be "in the room" this year, and that there will possibly be changes to how the voting is done next year. Then added that - according to Steve Wyche - HOF voters don't think that HOF players should vote because, "they don't watch as much football" as the voters do . . .

Er, no. Am thinking players watched a lot of film, at least when they were active -- likely more than the voters ever do, especially now that Dr. Z is off the committee. That may be true for periods before and after the player's career, though.

The major reason players shouldn't vote is that they're usually biased towards their ex-teammates. The experience seen with the BBHoF Veterans Committee (especially when Frankie Frisch was its head) is instructive.

They went into that when they moved the topic to whether HOF players should vote ... bias. Though many HOF voters have inherent biases as well: team they cover(ed), favorite team/players, players they had good relationships with, etc.

It would just look worse - from the outside - if say, Marshall Faulk had a vote and his teammates were all then selected.

I don't know why when they talk of having players vote that the idea is always limited to "HOF players". There's plenty of non-HOF players, obviously. Whether that means backup in the NFL, or NAIA college player, etc ... There's plenty of options on how to choose voters, and it doesn't have to be all be from one group either. You can have a mix of writers, scouts, coaches, players, historians, etc ...

Oh well.

The longest presentations for candidates at HOF meeting were Orlando Pace at 12:06, Ken Stabler at 9:34 & Eddie DeBartolo at 8:51.

That is a very good reason. Another one is retired players' bias against unpopular or disliked players.
