Re: Here we go again ! Another "New Football League"
Strong Rumor indicates the teams are named as below
Utah Stand
Texas Independence
Oklahoma Nation
Ohio Union
Northwest Empire
Florida Fusion
Arkansas Attack
Alabama Airborne
Utah one assumes Salt Lake is replacing Norfolk...
Easy to figure where the rest will play if indeed they ever take the field.

And not one team named after an animal. I'm guessing somebody is whipping up logos as we speak.single wing wrote:Strong Rumor indicates the teams are named as below

And not one team that ends with an "s"-- the Texas team could have been named the Independents. Since when is there such a thing as "an airborne"? That's not even a noun; might as well call a team the Chicago Dangerously. I sort of get it that Nation, Union, Empire would be plural, but a team that calls itself the "Stand"? I can't stand it.Rupert Patrick wrote:And not one team named after an animal. The Utah team's logo will be a nightstand with a lamp on it. I am certain of this.Mark L. Ford wrote:And not one team that ends with an "s"-- the Texas team could have been named the Independents. Hey, singular nicknames worked so well for the WFL.Mark L. Ford wrote:And not one team that ends with an "s"-- the Texas team could have been named the Independents. There was a Miami Fusion MLS team and now a Florida Fusion football team?
The IFL team in Spokane named their team the Spokane Empire a couple months back, and now another Pac NW team called the Empire?
Independence, Union, Attack are other names that I've seen in minor leagues or 'new-age' leagues like MLS with horrible team names. There's a Philadelphia Union in MLS. Pretty sure there is or was a women's soccer team recently called the Philadelphia Independence, too.

Four decades ago, Billie Jean King ran the World Team Tennis' Philadelphia Freedoms' franchise. Being friends with Elton John resulted in a song by that name (singular). I suppose the best options fro a repeat would be Utah and Oklahoma's nicknames.Reaser wrote:Pretty sure there is or was a women's soccer team recently called the Philadelphia Independence, too.

Re: Here we go again ! Another "New Football League"
That would be appropriate-- for most of these leagues, the opening night game attracts a large crowd of folks; and for most of those spectators, the relationship with the new team really is "a one night stand". And, following up on BD's note regarding Elton John and the Philadelphia Freedoms, there are plenty of songs about one night stands...JWL wrote: The Utah team's logo will be a nightstand with a lamp on it.
