Hats Off to FOX

The FOX network gave America and Her heroes an early holiday gift yesterday with its broadcast from Pearl Harbor.
The heretofore considered self-centered egoist, Jimmy Johnson, had his image forever changed in the eyes of many.
His "favorite" people included the Brave now serving, the Veterans who served, and a special regard for the Pearl Harbor survivors.

There is at least one here who chooses to mock Veterans.
He is much like a baby: An alimentary canal indiscriminately devouring at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.

Let the majority instead follow the FOX-Johnson wake and "Remember Pearl Harbor" and all it represents.

I always like and watch when FOX does things like this.

They're good about supporting the military - and more importantly, being genuine about it.

I know of at least one FOX Sports building they put up on a base since a good friend of mine (and former teammate) was in the Air Force and was happy about getting to watch some games while 'over there' ...

Wish we'd hear more about that. I can't imagine being "over there", but I must imagine a little slice of home helps. Good for them.

FOX is good - granted - and whatever they do always seems genuine.
Other stations have done things but often it appears some of it is commercially motivated.

As for hearing more... some cities are positively outstanding.
It might be nice to say one's home town was the front runner in such displays but that honor falls to that little town in Wisconsin.

On Memorial Day, 2011, Green Bay put on a display that might never be equaled.
It was especially significant because it required the timed cooperation of almost everyone in the stands.
This was posted in the old forum but, when saving the text, the inserts were left behind.

The game was broadcast by ESPN and that station aired a string of ads instead of letting their viewers see these displays.

Here's what ESPN denied the national audience.

I know someone who was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941--and he also took part in the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. I suspect he's one of a kind.

Unfortunately the Packers accepted $400,000 dollars for those military displays back in 2011. It would've been more honorable had they organized that impressive display on their own dime. Of course they weren't the only NFL team paid that was paid to honor the military.

Then there's Jim Leavelle, who will forever be remembered as the cop in the white suit and cowboy hat next to Lee Harvey Oswald as he was shot by Jack Ruby. He was also at Pearl Harbor and is actually still alive at age 95.

It is, indeed, a shame that the Packers are shown to be no better than the rest on that list.
At least they created something grand and spent some time and money doing it.
The rest seem to go to the local legion hall, grab a few vets who can still fit into their uniforms, and march them out for the crowd.
It is surprising to see the Stealers on that list... so much for having a field grade officer on staff.
