1969 Chiefs Roster

Post by Shipley »

Interesting realization that may have already occurred to many of you, but it's fitting that the last team to ever play a game as a member of the AFL, the 1969/70 Kansas City Chiefs, had several AFL stalwarts who played their last games ever in the Super Bowl against the Vikings: Tom Flores, Jacky Lee and Paul Lowe. Lee, Lowe and Johnny Robinson, who also played in that game, were among the select group of 19 players who played all 10 years of the AFL. Obviously, that Chiefs team also included numerous other AFL mainstays like Len Dawson, Buck Buchanon, Otis Taylor, etc., but thought this was an interesting story line.

Don't know how many people knew it at the time, but the 1969 Chiefs were really loaded with good and great players. Besides the players mentioned there were also guys like Bobby Bell, Aaron Brown, Ed Budde, Curley Culp, Mike Garrett, Willie Lanier, Jim Lynch, Jim Marsalis, Emmitt Thomas, Jim Tyrer, Jan Stenered, Jerry Mays, Fred Arbanas, and many others. Quite an array of talent on that 1969 Kansas City team.
