Re: If you could enshrine one player into the Hall of Fame..
Tobin Rote. Won a Title in both the NFL and AFL. Was a passing champion in each league. Had some "black ink" (league leading) statistical passing categories for the Packers in the 1950s. Was once technically all-time NFL leading QB TD scorer ( recognizing here that Otto Graham scored more ...

Re: Point-value of TDs, FGs, XPs, TPCs, safeties
A look at FG percentage from 1920 (I know the stats are incomplete, but you can still get a rough idea of what FG percentage was from 1920 to 1932) to today will indicate that compared to the early days , the FG is practically automatic today, especially from 40 yards out or less. I think the FG sh...

Re: NFL players who later played in CFL
Frank Filchock played in the CFL after being banned in the NFL. Frankie Albert of the 49ers played the 1953 season for Calgary. Eddie LeBaron did a season with Calgary as well. In later years Joe Theismann (before he played in the NFL), Vince Ferragamo & Rocket Ismail (again before he played in ...

Re: Announcerless Game (NYJ@Mia, '80) discussion
What is needed is a one announcer game. Play by Play only, no "color". Also, if MLS can broadcast games with no commercials during a half, no reason why the NFL cant at least try it once. Actually, NBC followed up its "Silence Bowl" with a one announcer game on December 12, 1981...

Re: Early to mid 50s QBs not named Otto Graham
If you had actually read the article, you would know that the author's statement that Moon could have approached 650 yards was related to a number of dropped balls by the Oiler receivers, as well as a catch by Haywood Jeffries that was called out of bounds. It wasn't just about the final few minute...

Re: Early to mid 50s QBs not named Otto Graham
Warren Moon had a huge passing day of 500+ yards and was taken out of the game. He was asked if he wanted to go back in when it was realized he had a chance to take out Norm Van Brocklin's single game passing yardage record of 554 but he declined. Moon played the entire game. With about 2 minutes l...

Re: Early to mid 50s QBs not named Otto Graham
Like Van Brocklin and Peyton Manning, Tobin Rote also won titles with 2 teams: the 1957 Detroit Lions (to date, their last league/conference title) & the 1963 San Diego Chargers. (one of only 2 league/conference titles in their history). He also QBed a division winner in the 1960 Toronto Argonau...

Re: Best three year run of any team since the merger.
If one dates the merger as 1966 when it was agreed to, and when the teams started playing exhibition games against each other and the common draft began.... The Oakland Raiders 1967 - 1969. 1967: 13-1 AFL Champions 40-7 over Houston, played in Super Bowl (lost 33-14 to Green Bay) 1968: 12-2 AFL West...
