Re: List all league MVPs whose team won championship same se

Joe Kapp - 1969 NFL Champion Minnesota Vikings Kapp was selected by Pro Football Guide, the Detroit News and the Pro Football Writers Association - New York Chapter. Vikings.com states that Kapp was selected 1969 NFL MVP in 5 different polls: http://www.vikings.com/50/greatest-vikings/player-profile...

Re: The Karlis game winning field goal in Cleveland

Close but it appeared to me that the ball stayed inside the upright as it passed over. I still have a copy of that game and will have to take another look. It was more convincing than Don Chandler's game tying FG in the '65 Western Conference Playoff that forced overtime: http://articles.baltimoresu...

Thanks John. I also found some information about it here (a future volume about early Winnipeg FB will be another welcome addition):

Re: Any good books on the 1960's Continental Football League

By coincidence, Don Jonas, the Continental League's greatest player, was here in Winnipeg last week to promote the new coffee table book, "The Jonas Era", which highlights his three and a half seasons with the Blue Bombers. Jonas will always be my local sports hero. Don Jonas - MVP in bot...

Re: Best pre-’77 Broncos squad?

Weak schedule and other factors aside, it's the 1976 team. No other pre-'77 Broncos squad even belongs in the discussion. Speaking as a Broncos fan during those years I always felt that the '73 Broncos squad could play with any team in the AFC - at home or on the road. I did not have the same confi...

Re: Best pre-’77 Broncos squad?

Now in 1973 the Broncos went into the last game 7-4-2. Win the game, at Oakland, and they're in the playoffs. They had a competitive game, but came up short. But they were in the race longer than the 1976 Broncos. Did better against good competition as well. 2-2-1 against playoff teams, 3-3-1 again...

Re: Best pre-’77 Broncos squad?

Agree with OP that the 1973 Broncos squad was Denver's best pre-1977. They took the Raiders right down to the wire in Week 14 of the 1973 season, losing 21-17 on the road. A 36-34 loss to San Francisco and a 16-14 loss at Kansas City were two near misses for Denver. A 17-17 tie at St. Louis was anot...

Re: Thoughts on Super Bowl XII (Dal 27 Den 10)

Didn't Craig Morton have a sort-of 'Epic' Winslow-like moment after the Broncos beat Raiders in that AFCC? Read somewhere long ago that he fell over in the locker room right after the game due to exhaustion and being real banged up. It may have actually been from a book on NFL QBs I ordered from th...

Re: Thoughts on Super Bowl XII (Dal 27 Den 10)

I recall that some Broncos fans jokingly asked Red Miller to change his first name to Orange in honor of the team. Also, Orange Crush made a mint off the Broncos' season because of the connection between their name and the Denver defense. Considering Oakland faded in '78, it wouldn't have bee...

Re: Thoughts on Super Bowl XII (Dal 27 Den 10)

Denver was lucky to even be there thanks to a terrible call when Rob Lytle clearly lost the ball on a fumble before crossing the goal line for a pivotal touchdown in the AFC championship. The Raiders were hosed on that one. One of the worst calls in NFL playoff history for sure. However the Broncos...
