Re: Something dumb that you remember about watching the NFL
Two things that have always troubled me about the Tuck Rule call: 1) Brady had two hands on the ball when Woodson knocked it loose. 2) I understand that, according to the rule, Brady was still in the process of attempting a pass until he tucked the ball into his body, but what would have prevented a...

Re: 1962 AFL draft mystery
And your thought about the league assigning signing rights to some stragglers sounds pretty plausible, which is what the Total Football authors were hinting at, too, even if the dates didn't make sense. Too bad Bob Carroll isn't still with us so we can bug him about it.

Re: 1962 AFL draft mystery
Yeah, the MacKinnon and Allen situations make it pretty clear that those rounds don't fit in with the official narrative. As for the 29th and 30th rounds, the Raiders "30th" round pick, Pete Nicklas, was mentioned in the November 30, 1961 story in the Oakland Tribune, along with their &quo...

1962 AFL draft mystery
While trying to research signing dates of some Raiders players in 1962 and 1963 I ran into info about the 1962 AFL draft that doesn't match up with what's out there in the pro football encyclopedic world. Pro Football Reference simply lists 34 rounds without a draft date or further details. The Pro ...

Re: "Virtual" chapter of the PFRA
If it's going to meet on-line, why is there a need for geographic boundaries? The definition of a chapter in the PFRA is a sub-organization of the PFRA that serves people in a specific geographic area. A virtual chapter that is all-inclusive of PFRA members is simply the PFRA itself but virtually. ...

Re: The Death of NFL Dynasties
I also think of that loss at home to Eagles in Buddy's first year when I think of the "end" of the Raiders' late-'60s-thru-'mid-'80s run. But though I don't completely remember for sure what I was actually feeling about them as that season went on, I'd lean on me possibly having the vibe ...

Re: The Death of NFL Dynasties
The death of the Raiders dynasty can be traced to a single play. After a slow start to the 1986 season, they rebounded to post an 8-4 record going into a November 30 game against the Eagles at the Coliseum. The Eagles, who weren't very good that year, had played the Raiders tough, forcing overtime. ...
