First one that comes to mind is Giants/49ers MNF in the early 90s. I think both teams might have been 10-1 or something like that going into the game. I'd have to look up the specifics.
Cowboys/Oilers Thanksgiving 1979 was another really good one. And of course Miami at Houston MNF in 1978.

"Can't Miss" Prospects at other Positions
We have a fun one started at QB, so I thought it would be fun to have one for other positions. I remember thinking both JJ Watt and Aaron Donald were can't miss. Donald had one of the best college seasons of all time his senior year. Derrick Henry was another guy I thought was can't miss because he ...

The guy I picked right was Russell Wilson.
The guy I picked wrong was Danny Weurfel.
One guy who really impressed me with his accuracy in college was Matt Ryan. I didn't think he was a can't miss prospect per se but I remember think he had a good chance.

Re: what college QBs did you consider "can't miss" prospects over the years?
Brian Brohm. When he was drafted us Packers fans thought that Brohm might be the better option at QB over Aaron Rodgers. His training camp performance quickly killed that thought. He was certainly sold that way in the media after the draft. I figured that he'd get picked up by another team but he s...

Re: Andy Reid
As far as Andy Reid, we're at a time when NFL media sensationalization is high. When you couple that with the fact that he's (historically) maybe a B grade coach when the rest of the league (comparatively historically) might top out at C+ with only a few exceptions, he looks amazing compared to ever...

Re: Andy Reid
Paul Brown never won another playoff game without Otto Graham, yet no one questions his place on the Mt Rushmore of greatest ever, coaches. I would. Trading Milt Plum for Jim Ninowski because you got in an argument with him is "How to Not Win Playoff Games for Dummies" With Paul Brown, it...

Re: NFL and Christmas Day
For perspective, the 1960 Eagles Packers NFL Championship Game was played on Monday, Dec. 26, 1960 because Christmas fell on Sunday that year.

Re: Fair Catch kicks -- Quirky Research link
I'm not having any luck finding it but there was another missed free kick attempt by the 49ers during the Bill Walsh/Joe Montana era. I don't remember the opponent or year but I vaguely recall the circumstances. It was the end of the first half and the Niners lined up in what looked like a kick off...

Re: Fair Catch kicks -- Quirky Research link
Thanks for posting this. Quirky Research is a fantastic site. A lot of great kicking names on that list. Coincidentally, Mark Moseley tried a 70-yard fg at the end of the Week One game vs Houston in 1979. Perhaps the only kicker to try 2 70+ yd FGs in the same season??? Fun list and fun rule. I'm gl...

Re: Another story that has been semi-debunked
Cliff Christl did a great article on that story a while back on the Packers official website. One of the points made was that whether it was true or not, Lombardi certainly didn't mind the players believing it was true! Added - here is a link to Cliff's article, which is made from excerpts of oral h...
