Re: Cavaliers win

The last Cleveland pro basketball championship was in 1962. In 1962 the Cleveland Pipers of the new American Basketball League, won the championship. They had one of the best players in this new league, Dick Barnett. Bevo Francis was also on the team. The league was an Abe Saperstein project. The Pi...

Re: Mary Jane and Football

Personally I never got a highway ramp built and parking lots, for my house, no special railroad stations were constructed. I can't probably put up a gigantic sign with my name on it atop my house. Nor is my house funded in large part through government loans, bonds, whatevers. Am I wrong that no oth...

Re: The Big Book of Black Quarterbacks

Willie Mays would have been converted into a receiver or safety or corner back. The NFL was not into black QBs, especially ones that talented, at that time.

Re: 1926 Frankfurt Yellow Jackets - Women's exhibition

The first image doesn't show up for me. Is there text there that explains what this is?

All it says is <image>

Now I see the image. Was there an explanation of this game/exhibition earlier and I missed it?

See the list dating back to 1920 for National Champions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_college_football_national_championship By the way, New York had two major black newspapers. Amsterdam News and New York Age. Here's a list of all-Black college yearly "bowl" games, including The So...

Re: Super Bowl XIX / Stanford Stadium question

I lived near Stanford at that time. Just north in Menlo Park. What I remember is the discrepancy between what the media was portraying in the weeks before the Super Bowl as to the area's interplay with the event, and the reality in Palo Alto and the effected communities. All the "hoopla" w...
