Re: Forward Progress / Tackling in the Early 1950s

He had to be held in the grasp. If contact was made and the ball carrier fell without being in the grasp, he could get up and continue.

Re: Dave Volsky's YouTube channel

NFL Films bought the Tel Ra pro football back catalogue around 1980. I think they paid $20K? This is why in the '80s we started to see those 1950s player profiles that pulled extensively from the Tel Ra footage. I don't remember the Cachiotti story about retrieving Tel Ra reels from the dumpster. If...

Re: What Stopped Grren Bay in 1964

Kicking FGs with a groin pull sounds like a challenging endeavor, yet Vince kept sending him out there.

Re: ABC Messed Up Chris Schenkel

Schenkel was good on golf and bowling, the whispering sports. He had a hard time turning the knob up to 10 for football when it was needed.
Tended to sound like he was sitting back in an easy chair instead of on the edge of his seat. I thought Marty Glickman's energy was more suited for football.

Re: Is the following record unbreakable?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t punting in the 1930’s used very differently than it is now? Oh, yeah. It was often used as an offensive weapon, because in those days field position could be more important than possession of the ball. The football itself was bigger and harder to handle, so fumbl...

Re: NFL broadcast preservation status

It still amazes me that broadcasts of the 1961 NFL Title Game and 1962 AFL Title Games, for example, are in circulation but we still can't get a complete film of the first Super Bowl, which came five years later. Film? You mean tape? NFL Films put together a nice complete game film synched to the r...

Re: NFL broadcast preservation status

Wait, there’s a copy of the 1969 NFL Championship Game between Minnesota and Cleveland? In the Secret Base series on the history of the Minnesota Vikings, in some of the early years where they couldn’t find a copy of the full broadcast (whether it be a score or a drive), they showed a sticker that ...

Re: NFL broadcast preservation status

From what I understand the great volume of preserved broadcasts starting in 1977 came through back channels w/ the CBS archive. These weren't recorded by private parties. NBC broadcasts from that era are few, and that's because they were recorded by home recorders.

Re: SB Champions That Should Have Repeated

'78 Cowboys were sooo close. If Jackie just hangs onto that pass it might have changed the momentum.
We all remember the '90 49ers were painfully close to registering a three-peat. All they had to do was run out the clock.

Nobody's coming forward. Interesting. He's got a name tag so it's not just a random dude photobombing the PFRA.
