Re: Last HoF eligible years for some borderline worthies

Don't see a compelling case for anyone on that list to be in the HOF. A good argument for some of these folks is the lack of position representation. That goes for WRs (Sharpe, Ellard), safeties (Cherry, Browner, Butler, Atwater, Woodson), and kickers (Anderson, Lowery). If not mistaken, Ronnie Lot...

Re: Last HoF eligible years for some borderline worthies

What is the argument for keeping Roger Craig out of the Hall? I know his career numbers don't stack up high, but for awhile he was arguably the league's most versatile back. Wasn't he the first RB to have both 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in the same season? Also, IMO he was the MVP of the 49e...

Re: Last HoF eligible years for some borderline worthies

Sterling Sharpe Arguably better than 8-9 of the last 10 receivers to go in. I'm definitely in favor of Sharpe for the Hall. He, Mac Speedie, and Del Shofner strike me as comparable, big peak but short career guys which HoF voters don't often elect. Sharpe (3/5/none) and Speedie (6/2/40s) played for...

Re: Senior Nominees for Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2

I think Cliff Branch is one of the most glaring omissions from the HOF. His numbers are better than HOF contemporaries Swann and Stallworth, and he was a mainstay on three Super Bowl winners. Agreed on Branch, though his numbers are similar to Harold Jackson, Harold Carmichael, and Drew Pearson -- ...

Re: Senior Nominees for Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2

Trying to predict who the Senior nominees will be strikes me as a futile exercise, especially given the huge backlog and the level of head-scratch to a number of the past nominees. Would love to see some attention paid to some "super seniors" such as Lavvie Dilweg, Duke Slater, Verne Lewel...

Re: Kooch vs Kramer

My guess is that Dr. Z saw Kramer's deficiencies in pass protection and sometimes giving up on plays. Whether that outweighs Kramer's run-blocking, screen-blocking, and pulling prowess is a good question. I think it also has to be borne in mind that the Packers' offense was built around running, so...

Thank you for the compliments. We are focusing on players who regularly come up in HOF discussion for seniors candidates.
You've rightly championed '20s players like Lavvie Dilweg, Verne Lewellen, and Duke Slater. Was wondering how much footage exists for players of that time. Might not be much.

Re: Kooch vs Kramer

Ken and Matt have, at least for Kramer: http://www.kencrippen.com/historical-scouting-reports.htm Ron, thanks for posting. Terrific looking work by Ken and Matt with lots of specifics and detail. Should be enough to convince anyone of the usefulness of knowledgable film study. Looking forward to fu...

Kooch vs Kramer

Given what I've read, it looks like Dr. Z feels Jerry Kramer doesn't have HoF credentials and Bob Kuechenberg does. If so, it's something I'd be interested to see the argument for. For what it's worth, Kramer's profile is 5/3/60s and Kooch's is at 2/6/none. What does film study say? Anybody have goo...
