IIRC the 1981 season was the first when the two conferences (East and West) merged and a playoff system included the top 3 teams in each conference, regardless of record. People who argue that Pearson doesn’t deserve his bust in Canton just don’t get it…and this is coming from a Vikings fan. Pearson was to receivers as Namath was to quarterbacks. He was much, much more than the numbers on a page or screen will ever be able to tell you.

The best way to phrase it is "never to win a world championship." Though I'd personally go with someone who never even made the Super Bowl: Marty Schottenheimer. Interesting, why Schottenheimer first of those seven? Schottenheimer had a ton of regular-season success and just some bad luck...

Yes, the HOF definitely missed the boat on the all-time leading receiver at the time of his retirement. Howton and Del Shofner are the two senior receivers most deserving of enshrinement.
