Re: 2018 Obituaries
For anyone who watched the "A Football Life" episode on Alan Page and found his life to be extraordinarily inspirational, in no small part because of the Page Education Foundation he started with his wonderful wife Diane Sims Page, then you like me you were saddened to hear of Diane Page's...

Re: Almost a coin flip to decide a playoff spot in 1970?
Insane that a coin flip was even on the table. Curious if it came to that...would both teams just rather play a game instead and just move the entire playoffs back a week? My sentiments exactly. All the other tiebreakers are at least somewhat affectable (I know that's not a word, but close enough) ...

Ivan, that is priceless stuff. Thank you so much for sharing. Just thankful we have an Ivan Urena to answer all of our scheduling and tie-breaking riddles!

Almost a coin flip to decide a playoff spot in 1970?
I came across an article written before the final weekend of the 1970 season. It said that if the Giants, Lions and Cowboys all won, the Giants would win the NFC East, and the Cowboys and Lions would decide the NFC wild card by a coin flip. The Giants got blown out and the Cowboys and Lions both won...

Contemplating John Jefferson
Been contemplating John Jefferson, and would like to get reflections from the Forum on these questions: 1. For pure excitement and entertainment during his San Diego years, where do you put Jefferson in the pantheon of all-time WRs? 2. When the trade to Green Bay happened in Sept. 1981, Jefferson ha...

A few questions about Super Bowl XVII
A few questions about Super Bowl XVII: 1. Why did the NFL schedule the Redskins-Cowboys NFC Championship on a Saturday and the Dolphins-Jets AFC Championship on a Sunday that year? Was there any grousing at the time about the extra day's advantage for the NFC winner over the AFC winner to prepare fo...

Re: Most consecutive drives ending in a turnover, one team
On Sept. 14, 1986, San Diego turned the ball over on all six of its second-half possessions against the Giants, on five Fouts interceptions and a Tim Spencer fumble. The Giants won, 20-7. After the game, Fouts said "Mama said there'd be days like this. She was right." and later "Each ...

Re: general 1978 NFL pre-season predictions, expectations, e
The book you're referring to is The Complete Handbook of Pro Football, edited by the late, great Zander Hollander. I have every edition, so if you ever need anything, just ping me. The 1978 edition picked Dallas, Chicago and LA in the NFC, and New England, Pittsburgh and Oakland in the AFC. Dallas v...

Minnesota Vikings RB O.J. Simpson
Interesting article on Ron Yary on the 50-year anniversary of the 1968 draft: https://www.twincities.com/2018/04/20/nfl-draft-vikings-couldnt-land-o-j-simpson-in-1968-but-ron-yary-worked-out-just-fine/. This was the draft that had that really confusing "bonus first overall pick, but you must dr...

Re: Best-ever players, post-merger, to never make post-seaso
Seems like the 1970s Saints, Falcons, Eagles, and Giants would have candidates here. Aside from those already mentioned in the thread, some decent players who came to mind who started their career in 1970 or after and who never made the playoffs were Tom Sullivan, Henry Childs, Tom Myers, John Mende...
