Re: Really, Really Trivial...
Worst back-to-back pass defense games ever -- Houston Oilers. Last game of 1982 - Ken Anderson completes NFL record 20 passes in a row en route to 27 of 31, 323 yards, 2 TDs. First game of 1983 - Lynn Dickey completes first 18 passes of game en route to 27 of 31 for 333 yards, 5 TDs. Dickey played t...

Re: Really, Really Trivial...
What's the most consecutive plays with the same player catching a pass? Eric Sievers caught passes on three straight plays for San Diego against Seattle on Sept. 18, 1983. Anyone catch the ball on four straight plays or more?

Re: Announcerless Game (NYJ@Mia, '80) discussion
I seem to recall that back when this game occurred there was a backlash from the public toward TV announcers, particularly the lightning rod of Cosell. His act was wearing thin on viewers by that point, and I remember a segment on "Real People" I think it was about the "TV Bricks"...

Re: Teams falling off a cliff that were surprising
1983 Jets: Fresh off of a 1982 AFC Title Game loss, they were expected to be a contender for Super Bowl 18. However, they had two straight 7-9 seasons in 1983 and 84. This was the one that first came to mind to me. I lived on Long Island during that era, and the Jets were just loaded with blue-chip...

Re: I lost the NFL Network
I find MLB Network to be much more enjoyable. It's been eons since I had cable of any kind, but I do remember I liked the MLB network as well. They came out with a DVD set of a series called "The Seasons" which covered each year of the 1980s with one-hour documentaries. I remember really ...

Re: Best games of the season of all-time great defenses
Okay, so now that we've gone through the exercise of picking the best games of the best defenses, who is your choice for the ultimate, single, best defensive one-game performance in NFL history? Again, keeping in mind caliber of opponent, specific contributions by the defense as opposed to the offen...

Most unexpected great game
The Sept. 18, 1983 game between Chicago and New Orleans might be the most unexpected great game I’ve ever seen. New Orleans wins 34-31 in overtime, in a contest that just had intense, creative, gutsy, athletic, entertaining play throughout the entire afternoon. Some memories from recently viewing th...

Re: Best games of the season of all-time great defenses
Great stuff all. Some other thoughts: 1962 Packers – I’d consider the 49-0 shutout over Chicago in week 3. The Bears would go 9-3 in games that weren’t against Green Bay, and finished fourth in the NFL in points scored. Both teams came in 2-0 and the winner of this one would get the upper hand in th...

Best games of the season of all-time great defenses
If you could only pick one game to represent each the greatest defenses of all-time, which one would it be? Taking into account: * Caliber of opponent (so games against the 1977 Bucs probably wouldn't be chosen) * Something big at stake (no meaningless end of season games, you're probably thinking k...
