Re: Chuck Foreman
No to Foreman here. The TDs are the best argument. But Bill Brown had the exact same number. The "lowered standards" argument comes down to Floyd Little. There was a campaign for Little. I didn't buy the campaign, but would the same campaign work for Foreman? Little was given credit by som...

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions
That comparison makes no sense. The Rams didn't play in the same division as GB, beat the Packers twice, then 'tie' for the division and still have to play another game against GB to win the division. The Rams only played the Packers once that year, in LA, after the Packers had already clinched a p...

Re: 1998 Eagles Season
Despite a 3-13 season, the Eagles defense only gave up 18 TD passes but their offense only scored 7 through the air! Is this number the fewest ever for a team in a 16 game season? Record for 16 game season is 5 by 1995 Buccaneers. Trent Dilfer. Lousy team that lucked into a 7-9 record by winning so...

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions
Like the college football regular season once was...let the 2PC exist in the NFL (it, really, should have in the first place), but no OT at all in the regular season. If 2PCs can't help decide things in regulation, then oh well. Playoffs? Well, of course, overtime in that case. I can't believe coll...

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions
Sorry but I don’t miss the days when an 8 point lead late basically meant game over and pray for an onside kick 1993 Chiefs/Oilers, Houston scores to cut a 21-13 deficit to 21-19. You think a chance to tie it wouldn’t have been exciting? Heck Marcus Allen’s touchdown wouldn’t have been game over I ...

Re: Tight Ends and Defensive Tackles that could be Hall of Very Good
I also like Aaron Thomas as TE/WR, Bob Tucker and for the future, Vernon Davis, Jimmy Graham, who has a HOF case as well. Riley Odoms is the best eligible TE not in HOVG. I would pick him before Trumpy. Charle Young and Bob Tucker were very similar, Young is probably going to get the nod there beca...

Re: 1972: Steelers VS Redskins
Dunno why the Packers would say that. They didn't have a passing game. Plus they threw 24 times that game. Besides the 30 they threw against the Bears, 22 was the most. No one except the RBs caught more than 19. The WRers caught 16,15, and 8. Washington only threw 14 times that game. The weather at...

Re: Best-ever KICKOFF kickers?
I know even in the early 1970s Marcol and Stenerud, in their prime, didn't do a few of the kickoffs. Dave Pureifory and Marvin Upshaw subbed in. Some sort of minor injury, play it safe? Pureifory filled in for Marcol in 1975 after the latter tore a thigh muscle. He did the placekicking for parts of...

Re: Best-ever KICKOFF kickers?
should probably add Lou Groza --- literature of the day alke about his strong leg. I have seen him kick on films but never really tracked his kickoffs. I was just written about. In the 1960s though there is more data and it seems like not that many touchbacks as he got older. Also, touchbacks were ...

Re: Best-ever KICKOFF kickers?
Looking at some data from the 1970s, my conclusion is that the coverage teams were more important than a kicker who could boom them deep. Fred Cox was at the bottom in kickoff length, but the Vikings had good coverage units and more than made up for him. It was still the best to get a touchback, but...
