Re: 1967 Blues for the Browns
You might have been aware of this Saban1 but the NFL secretly paid off Ninowski, similar to John Brodie, due to signing with the Raiders before the merger. Once the merger happened, all signings were declared void but with Ninowski and Brodie threatening anti-trust lawsuits, they got paid quite wel...

Re: 1998 Eagles Season
Wolf was surprised and appalled by how unfocused and undisciplined the team was under Rhodes. Sloppy tackling and mental errors became the rule instead of the exception in Green Bay. He was wise to realize his mistake and act quickly. I agree with that and will add that Rhodes was terrible at clock...

I wonder where the MWFL got the idea.

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions
1) I still don't love the 2 point conversion. I understand why it exists, and I wasn't resisting it's arrival in 1994...to me it just wasn't necessary. It was fine that a 16 point lead was something that you should not be able to make up with just two touchdowns and 2 cheap "easter egg" p...

Re: ABC Messed Up Chris Schenkel
I never thought much of Schenkel as an announcer but I'll always remember a line of his from a golf tournament:
"Because of the intermittent rain, the golfers are having a hard time holding their balls on the green."
That was followed by several seconds of rather awkward silence.

Re: Is the following record unbreakable?
The last 4 punts before 4th down were all done by the Patriots...twice by Brady, once by Matt Cassell, and once by their regular punter. The two by Brady came in the same game, Dec. 28, 2008, against the Bills. vs Bills you mean Cassel and Hansen punted Brady in the 2011 playoffs vs Denver. Up 45-1...

Re: Is the following record unbreakable?
It was a gradual process, without an obvious break, but I'd say the change took place from maybe 1933-48 or so -- and especially during the 1940s, as more and more teams switched from the single wing to the T-formation. I'd say teams were punting almost exclusively on fourth downs by 1950, maybe a ...

Re: 1926 Super Bowl - Quakers v. Giants
This is an OCRed version of a game story from the Brooklyn Times-Union: Battling Giants Humble Quakers Secret Raw Meat Diet Hinted as Pro Gridders Down A. L. Champs. As far as could be ascertained by the more curious of the 5,000 specta- tors at the Polo Grounds yesterday, the New York Football Gian...

Re: Facial recognition and biometrics to cover a team
I wonder if the NFL is aware that facial recognition technology shows a racial bias.

Re: PFHOF myth
When I hear something like that from a fan ("Will Woodson go in as a Raider or Packer) I immediately dismiss them as not a true football nerd. What really makes me cringe is when I meet people who look at me like I'm an idiot when I say the Ravens were the real Browns. Or when some guy who thi...
