Re: 1984 Steelers

Malone also had multiple 40 yard runs in his career along with a 90 yrd TD reception. His athleticism got him drafted and after dealing with pocket passers in Baltimore, Noll preferred more athletic QBs. Wasn't Malone more of a runner in college? I don't understand why he was a first-round pick. Th...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

The NFC outside of the 49ers and NFC East flavor of the month was pathetic between the Bears/Packers outlier years After 1981, there were NFC West teams that had some success, but no other franchise in the division made a Super Bowl until the 1998 Falcons (that was the end of the 18-year 49er run o...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

I stand by my opinion that the 91 Redskins were better than any Super Bowl champ that followed them Whuck? Whuck, indeed. The 1991 Skins were a good team that had a great year. They were another overrated NFC winner during that time that the NFC was dominant over the pathetic AFC (who wouldn't send...

Re: 1976: PATRIOTS vs Vikings in Super Bowl XI?

As far as who would have been favored, it's a tough one to call. On one hand, the Vikes have the experience. However, on the other, the Pats beat the Raiders and Steelers (without Franco and Rocky, but they still had the great defense) on the road (while the Vikes got lucky against the Rams). So, I ...

Re: 1984 Steelers

Did Malone early in his career have good play that made fans at the time say “this is the guy”?
Well, besides the upset win over Denver, he did throw for five TD's on opening day 1985 against the Colts. At that point, Steeler fans may have felt that they had the guy. Not for long.

Re: Super Bowl XIII and 1/2 (Wk#9: Pit 14, Dal 3; 10/28/79) revisited

I wish I was following sports at this time. I was a year away. I was two years away. SF-Cincy XVI was the first SB that I watched. I am ashamed to admit that I rooted for SF. You'd think..."My Sharona" would have been included (or "Sad Eyes" by Robert John; THAT knocked the Knac...

Re: 1984 Steelers

For years I thought this was an aging team yet outside of like 5-6 players were actually one of the younger teams in football They did have somewhat of a youth movement that year. Franco had just went to Seattle, and they already lost Bradshaw, Swann, Ham, Blount, etc... They were replaced by youth...

Re: Best MVP cases by non-quarterbacks and running backs

He was pretty rare, not sure what your criteria is, but he was worthy of MVP consideration, IMO.
Yeah. And, why does the QB have to only be MVP, especially in the last 20 years or so when it's gotten way easier to play the position because defenses have become neutered.

Re: 1992-93: Super Bowl XXVII without 35-3

I find it hard to believe San Diego would have given Dallas a much better game despite having even LESS talent than 1994 Actually, they had more talent in 1992. They had more Pro Bowlers than the 1994 team did, and they rated higher in points allowed, INT's, and sacks. Also, while the 1994 Chargers...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

But if you want to talk about thoroughly dominating a moment in time then there aren’t many teams that dominated their season more than the 91 Skins dominated 1991. Were they in the right place in history to do everything they did? Absolutely. But they went out and did it. That doesn't make them a ...
