Re: Best HC, '33-thru-'65, that didn't appear in a LCG?

Jock Sutherland? Considering his small sample size, there would have to be a better candidate. Or maybe not. Without actually rolling up my sleeves and taking a dive, no teams hence HCs come to mind in that era that had a nice-enough run of winning seasons/2nd-place finishes at best. When I saw the...

Re: 2026 HoF Seniors

The list was larger last year ... luckily they took off the worst cases but you have to make sure not to miss or omit those that are deserving. Gene Brito finally made it !! To the best of my recollection (which, granted, is not as good as it used to be) all of the initial candidates (like the HoVG...

Re: NFL Retired Number Trivia

SeahawkFever wrote: Wed Sep 03, 2025 2:27 am Interestingly, the Raiders and Cowboys don't retire numbers. If they did, 0 would be off the list.
And, I guess, that's also why the number 00 (according to Google) has not been retired?
If the Raiders retired numbers you'd have to think 00 (Jim Otto) would've been one of their first.

Re: Bud Grant's Vikings VS Marv Levy's Bills

Tough call ... Levy had more talent to work with but Grant had better defenses ... The Bills and Vikings both lost to more talented teams in the SB. Both teams took advantage of their home field in championship games and also won once on an opposing field. If their Super Bowls had (hypothetically) ...

Re: Teams that benefited from the 2002 realignment

The one change to the 2002 realignment I would make is flipping the Colts and Ravens. All of the then-“new” teams in one division. All of the former NFL teams in a geographically sensible division. 100% Agreed. I've said the same thing here several times. The one change I would make (and it confoun...

Re: Portsmouth Spartans

Thank you, Chris.
That's a great little documentary by a local station.

I especially liked the model train going from Green Bay to New York and stopping off in Portsmouth along the way... It is odd how something can go from mainstream to quaint and obsolescent in a single lifespan.

Re: What's the least interesting divisional pairing?

Seattle vs. Arizona in the NFC West. Chicago/St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona was an NFL/NFC East team. Seattle was (except for their first season) an AFC team. It is hard (for me) to realize the most recent re-alignment was in 2002 (it seems like only yesterday...) but neither of those teams have historic...

I'm embarrassed to mention (but just for completeness' sake) Doug Flutie's drop kick for an extra point on 1/1/06.

Re: Billy Howton

There's an excellent Bio for Howton on the HoVG page: https://profootballresearchers.com/hall-of-very-good-2004.html Re: his work with the NFLPA: Howton was a strong players rights’ advocate and that likely led to his being traded by both Green Bay and Cleveland. Paul Brown, one of the staunchest fo...
