Re: Pro Football Newspaper Histories

Had I received this as a gift as a 15 year old I would have been in heaven.

Re: Pro Football Newspaper Histories

It is very cool, particularly for the fan or enthusiast who doesn't have the inclination or the resources to research the teams themselves. But...how comprehensive can a Denver Broncos history (for example) be viewed through the Washington Post? Also, guessing most of the stories are Monday game sum...

Re: End of the Extra Point as we know it?

punts - too conservative - require teams to go for it on 4th down It's not unheard of, actually. Apologize ahead of time if this topic has already been dealt with but there's a high school coach who never punts, and his results and rationale have some merit. Regardless of where one stands on the ma...

Re: Best/Favorite teams with no HOF players

I was going to respond with Jim Mora's 1987-1992 New Orleans Saints, then realized Ricky Jackson is in (as is GM Jim Finks).

They went 62-33. Is Jackson their only player from that time period, or am I missing someone?

Re: Six interceptions in a game (caught, not thrown)

Thanks for the clarification. I remember being stunned at Kelly's USFL total at the time, and how little fanfare it received. It's interesting how Kelly and Marino's careers kind of mirrored each other. Both held TD records in their respective leagues, both ended up playing in the same division in t...

Re: Ram's owner unveils L.A. Stadium design

Most football people want open air stadiums. But modern economics and city/stadium politics around funding often result in these sterile, indoor convention-center type stadiums. Capitulation on the part of the owners is often the only way to get the bills passed. Then you have people like Joe Robbie...

Re: Six interceptions in a game (caught, not thrown)

Could be misremembering but I think at the time Marino held the single season record for passing TDs, Jim Kelly's single season TD record in the USFL was higher.

Re: Help with Cleveland Plain Dealer research

Also, if you don't have any luck tracking down the article but you know the date for sure you can download a few articles for around $10 (if memory serves). Almost any date available going way back.

Re: Help with Cleveland Plain Dealer research

I have several articles from the mid to late 1940s saved.

If you're looking for Browns articles the CPD has a place online where you can read all the Browns game summaries from that era, although they are not actual saved images from the paper itself.

Re: List of Historical Newspapers Online

Does anyone know if historical archives (years 1940-1980) of the Detroit Free Press and Philadelphia Evening News are available anywhere other than Detroit and Philadelphia area libraries or the Library of Congress?

Looking for an online source but don't think they exist.
