Re: Race for the final NFC wild card spot, 1981

I won't predict what may have happened but one interesting thing about Washington vs. Philadelphia that year; in week 4 Washington out gained them 337 yards to 221 but lost 36-13. In week 14 Philadelphia out gained Washington 416 yards to 176 but lost 15-13. Interesting factoid! Those four games be...

Re: 2025 NFL Season Wks 6 - 9

Garrett looks to be the Browns defense version of Joe Thomas! The 6-1 Colts...are they a 'paper tiger'? #22 defense thus far but that's about the only blemish. They're a net plus-point-9 in Y/A, #2 in points scored, #1 offense overall though, yeah, just at #10 in rushing Y/A, but #1 in rushing TDs ,...

Re: "Teams of Destiny" you believed in and were disappointed by

I remember in school in 1981, every football fan thought Dallas would go all the way. When the Niners beat them, several of us were so shocked, we admitted crying afterward ... haha Growing up in North Carolina at the time it seemed like the Cowboys OWNED the 4PM slot, I'm honestly not sure if I'd ...

Race for the final NFC wild card spot, 1981

The 9-7 Giants, in LT's rookie year, would end up punching their ticket to their first playoff berth in 18 years as well as first winning season in 9 on that final week (Saturday) of the '81 season. Always an intriguing team to look back on...the already mentioned it being Sir Lawrence of the Meadow...

Re: "Teams of Destiny" you believed in and were disappointed by

The 2003 Packers definitely had that look, starting with the memorable win at Oakland after Favre's dad died. Then came the Nate Poole miracle in Arizona that gave them the division, then the Al Harris pick-six to win the wild card playoff against Seattle. All that was dashed on the rocks thanks to...

Vikings/Raiders Super Bowl X (1975)

Minny preventing the Hail Mary, then beating the Rams as always, and they instead of Dallas meeting the Steelers in what would have been a rematch from the year before has been a hypothetical mentioned here. Raiders/Dallas as well. But how about if Minny takes care of that very biz in their conferen...

Re: More shocking dominant teams: 1981-98 49ers or 2001-19 Patriots

Yes, the Pats prior to 2001 had more recent success than the Forty Niners had prior to '81. In fact, NE under Carroll & Bledsoe started 6-2 just two years prior. But whereas San Fran was still a contender 17 years later in 1998, NE won yet another SB 17 years after '01 as well as still having th...

Re: 1992 Chargers discussion

Back to that Chargers at Steelers game from '89, it was a bigger game that year than you'd think. Both teams were 4-6 going in and were actually going in different directions. SD, as already mentioned, beat the Eagles two weeks earlier and then followed that up with another 'W', also at home, agains...

Re: Hacksaw Reynolds VS Matt Millen

With Matt Millen actually a Canton nominee this year, I then revive this thread by asking why not Hack as well? I am a 'small Hall' kind of a guy like just about everyone in here is, as I was inspired to be by this very forum. Millen with just one Pro Bowl and Reynolds with an extra one over him. Bo...

Re: Most pts a team scored in a game w/out scoring a pass-TD; most w/out scoring a run-TD??

Thanks for the responses! NYG/SF '93 divisional? That Steve Young offense NOT scoring a single pass-TD?? I remember the result, a sad way to end 'Big Blue Wrecking Crew'/LT-Simms era, but would have always assumed at least a couple TD passes! Ricky Watters 5 TDs? Fine, but perhaps one or two of them...
