Re: Super Bowl XIII and 1/2 (Wk#9: Pit 14, Dal 3; 10/28/79) revisited

I wish I was following sports at this time. I was a year away. I was two years away. SF-Cincy XVI was the first SB that I watched. I am ashamed to admit that I rooted for SF. You'd think..."My Sharona" would have been included (or "Sad Eyes" by Robert John; THAT knocked the Knac...

Re: 1984 Steelers

#8 in offense, #5 in defense! This team has been brought up here before and I commented recently. Statistically, they were better than 13-3 Denver so was that divisional rounder really an upset? Malone did have his moments but a better QB was, indeed, needed for they to finish at 11-5, or even 12-4,...

Super Bowl XIII and 1/2 (Wk#9: Pit 14, Dal 3; 10/28/79) revisited

Just watched the game. Most of it, at least. Summerall & Brookshier announced this 1PM EST Sunday event at Three Rivers Stadium. Its easy to forget considering Big D's relatively-speaking 'bleh' 11-5 finish in '79 (still good enough for top-seed though), but the Cowboys actually were 7-1 going i...

1976: PATRIOTS vs Vikings in Super Bowl XI?

Let's just say that NE turns that infamous (depending on point-of-view) real close controversial divisional defeat into an actual WIN, successfully take advantage of Harris/Bleier not being in the backfield at Three Rivers the following week, and its THEY - instead of the Raiders - who square off ag...

'Explanation' as to why Jim Mora never won a playoff game?

A very good coach! You have to be if you achieve seven winning seasons and six playoff berths. He did immediately lead the Saints to relevancy after two solid decades of not being a winner at all. Then what's the 'reason' for always coming up short in a playoff game? Could it, possibly, be that his ...

Guy Morriss, Eagles’ starter/starter in SBXV, and the one who he backed up as a Patriot in SBXX, Pete Brock.

Re: Notable/Interesting 7-9 teams in NFL history

Good one. They collapsed again in 1999 after a decent start if I remember right. Its a wonder that Cowher survived that period and kept his job. Well, it's the Rooney way (to give coaches every benefit of the doubt). However, it's easy to do that with Chuck Noll, who won four SB's. When you do that...

Re: Rank all eighteen '80s teams that finished 12-4 (or .750, lol)

Oh boy, cut me off! I guess I'm losing it. 1984 SEAHAWKS! I forgot THEM as well! Apologies to Reaser & Co. It's now eighteen such teams! I guess they being a wild card and faltering in the end hid them from me. No excuse though. I'm pretty confident now that there's yet another one (just like th...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

I love this one, I had no idea about any controversial call in that Bills/Jets game. My Oilers '93 What If has always been the early season game against the Chargers where they ruled a clear touchdown completion in the back of the end zone out of bounds that would have given Houston the win, which ...

Here they all are in chrono... '80 Eagles '80 Cowboys '80 Falcons '81 Bengals '81 Cowboys '83 Raiders '83 Dolphins '85 Raiders '85 Dolphins '86 Browns '86 Redskins '87 Bears '88 Bengals '88 Bills '88 Bears '89 Giants Yes, the one in italics...they DID finish 9-3 so include them. Ironically, this ex...
