Re: 1974 NFL season - expectations, retrospect...
Watching some consecutive TWITNFL episodes from '74. Pastorini definitely seeming to have had his big pass-play moments! Well...look who his HC was! As he did with Jaworski for Vermeil in both '80 & '82, just imagine had Sid simply been Dan's QB-coach during the Bum Phillips era in Houston! Oile...

Re: 2008 Steelers: The last team to allow 14 PPG or less?
Close by a hair ... the 2008 Steelers gave up 223 points. The 2019 Patriots gave up 225 at 14.1 ... But wasn't the bulk of that within their 8-0 start (perhaps, the 'last breath' of the Dynasty)? Yes, it did look scary at first, but then giving up 37 at Baltimore in that Wk#9 defeat and, from there...

Re: 2008 Steelers: The last team to allow 14 PPG or less?
Anything is possible. It’s not the most undoable future accomplishment. But pretty likely, I think, we’ll see stronger defenses than the ’08 Steelers if there haven’t been some already (without looking at or going by stats, I simply place ’13 Hawks & ’24 Eagles defenses above theirs for starters...

Re: 1974 NFL season - expectations, retrospect...
Great post _74 - _79, but I also believe that had Mia and Oak not played each other in the divisional round, possibly a different champion. The Steelers were clutch though and deserved their championship. The Dolphins should have beaten the Raiders but once Jake Scott got hurt, the Snake took the g...

1974 NFL season - expectations, retrospect...
Goal posts, finally, moved to the back of the endzone. Kickoffs from the 35, now, instead of the 40. Overtime now implemented into the regular season. The Super Bowl originally planned to be in the Superdome which would have made it the first such event in a dome three seasons earlier. Rules changes...

Re: Don Shula's Best Teams
I don't know. First, the '67 Colts had to beat the Rams at all in the finale to even get the opportunity in the first place! But not only did they not win, but they got blown-up! In my opinion, I think that during that brief unique 3-year era in the NFL of four divisions each beginning with the lett...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread
How about a what-if, involving the Redskins, in the three seasons leading up to 1981?
George Allen staying in DC thru the '80 campaign.
Do they collapse In '78? Do they get the top-seed in '79? Do they still suffer a losing season the following year?

Browns: Skorich era or Rutigliano?
Two little multiple (two qualifiers each) playoff eras in Cleveland. Almost like Ray Rhodes' time in Philly but each a bit better. And one of Sam's playoff berths was that 4-5 strike-shortened one, but at least he mustered two non-playoff winners ('79 & '83, each at 9-7) to Nick's just one (7-5-...

Re: Super Pillow Bowl
The Packers in 2010 were nothing to write home about, especially when Rodgers was injured but like the 2007 and 2011 Giants, got hot in the playoffs. Still, the 2011 Giants team makes sense. They needed that win in Dallas to have a chance. The Niners would have beaten them in the championship game ...

Re: Super Bowl XXX: COLTS vs Cowboys?
A lot of wishful thinking in this thread. By score differential, the Colts were barely above .500 in expected win total. Their 9-7 out-performs their expected record. Harbaugh was a solid game manager, but nothing more. Marshall Faulk was good, but not spectacular at the time. Defense was decent, b...
