Re: Best MVP cases by non-quarterbacks and running backs
I feel Rice was the MVP in 1995 with Grbac starting games with Young injured. Favre had a great year but so did Sharpe. Sharpe was done by then. Robert Brooks filled in OK as WR1, but he wasn't the difference maker Sharpe was. And behind him were marginal guys like Mark Ingram and Anthony Morgan, w...

Re: Rank all seventeen '80s teams that finished 12-4 (or .750, lol)
Packers-Vikings was a really weird rivalry then. In the 10 seasons from 1979 through 1988, the Packers went 14-5-0 (.737) against the Vikings and 42-80-1 (.345) against the rest of the NFL. During that same stretch, the Vikings were 69-64-0 (.519) against everyone but Green Bay.

Re: 1989 Vikings without Herschel Walker
Green was a goofball, but he knew how to surround himself with elite coaching talent. His were the only Vikings teams ever to win playoff games four years in a row. As for Walker, I think Minnesota goes about as far without him as they did with him in 1989. He had little impact in the season-ending ...

Re: Joe Gibbs' 3 Super Bowls- a great achievment or an asterisk?
Tons of very good teams have missed the playoffs. Sometimes it's due to the existing playoff structure, other times due to intense competition in their division or conference. Context matters. Assigning a binary, arbitrary standard to it is counterproductive and silly.

Re: 1965 NFL season discussion
The Western Conference was better year over year than the Eastern Conference. This year, the West won 13 of the 14 interconference games by a combined score of 437 to 205. The two were pretty evenly matched for years, but all that started to change in 1957. Between then and when the two conferences...

Re: Coaches who didn’t deserve to win COY
It too frequently gets awarded to the first year coach who improves his team 4-5 games from the previous season and sneaks them into the playoffs. "Coached a team that wasn't as awful as it was the year before" is too often the default rationale for the award. Dan Devine and Lindy Infante...

Re: NFL team 'runs' similar to other sports team 'runs' of the same seasons
After some years in the wilderness, the Steelers and Pirates both became contenders at roughly the same time, won championships the same year (1979), and fell off sharply shortly thereafter.

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions
Fourth-best run defense in the league = "garbage." Eleventh-best run offense in the league, even with appalling mediocrities like Levens and Bennett = "garbage." Fifth-best Super Bowl champ of all time, per ESPN = "one of the two worst."

Re: Seahawks for Sale
What am I bid for the World Champions? Going once, going twice... Let's start a fund! I'm sure that if we all pool our loose change we can make a reasonable offer. (Reminds me of when Lorne Michaels/Saturday Night Live offered the Beatles $3,000 to reunite on their show...) https://www.nfl.com/news...
