He'd be XXII, so just behind Theismann.

Oldest Super Bowl with...

What is the oldest Super Bowl that one of the play-by-play or color commentators is still alive? My guess is XIX, Joe Theismann. As for play-by-play, I think it's XXII, Al Michaels. But it's possible that someone else is alive from an earlier Super Bowl, so I'm wondering if I'm right or not.

Re: The Cowboys' rare holiday feat

I'm pretty sure the Packers played on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day in 2011, and went 3-0.

Re: Coaches with no championships in the NFL/AFL/AAFC

If we are being technical, yes. But in my opinion the NFL championship is not the championship of the season once the Super Bowl starts. The best way to phrase it is "never to win a world championship." Though I'd personally go with someone who never even made the Super Bowl: Marty Schott...

Re: Coaches with no championships in the NFL/AFL/AAFC

Technically, Bud Grant did win an NFL Championship. The first four Super Bowls (pre-merger) were world championship games between the champions of the NFL and AFL. They were even called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. Grant's Vikings were the 1969 NFL Champions. If we are being technical, yes....

When did the Super Bowl become the Super Bowl?

The football answer is Super Bowl III, when Joe Willie Namath's guarantee made the AFL-NFL merger work, and put both leagues on equal footing going into the merger. But when did it *culturally* become the Super Bowl? The first Super Bowl that I ever watched was Super Bowl XXVIII, and the first I wat...

Don't get your hopes up this year for anyone other than Bill Belichick. He will most certainly be the choice.

Re: Teams that couldn’t win in certain places

The Packers have...

Never won in Indianapolis (since 1984) (witnessed a loss in person in 2020)
Never won in Buffalo (since the merger in 1970) (witnessed a loss in person in 2014)
Not won in Pittsburgh since 1970 (you think I'm crazy enough to wear a Cheesehead there?)

Re: 2025 NFL season predictions

I missed this thread, so I'll share mine a month late. My Packers prediction was made before I knew Micah Parsons was coming to Green Bay.
