Re: 1988 NFL season predictions, expectations, discussion, etc

Yep, always fun to disagree with CS ... a 1988 49ers team that beat the Giants in the Meadowlands because they underestimated Montana's arm strength ... beating the Bears in Chicago because they too ... underestimated his arm strength in the wind. The Saints and Vikings also fell to the Joe Montana-...

Re: Are the 1990 Giants underrated?

OJ had six effective seasons with 1982 taken out and was much more effective as a receiver than Earl Campbell. He was the first back to cross 10,000 yards WITHOUT making the HOF but has two rings and a SB MVP. Had he, and his teammate, Roy Green, not gotten injured, they both EASILY would have made ...

Re: Better DC, Buddy Ryan or George Seifert?

Its interesting about both coaches ... they were lucky to keep their jobs on defense. The Bears could have tossed aside Ryan with Neil Armstrong but the players pleaded to Halas to keep him. At the same time, Chuck Studley had been the 49ers defensive coach but when Walsh threatened to retire--then ...

Wasnt it George Sauer Sr, that basically held that team together? I read the players respected him tremendously.

Re: 1979 Rams

The Rams were lucky that Ferragamo took over at QB after Haden got hurt. They wouldnt have made the playoffs with Haden. They only beat the Cowboys because Staubach had gotten another concussion later in the 4th quarter of the playoff. They pissed away the SB game with Cromwell dropping an easy inte...

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions

Its doubtful that Cavanaugh produces Montana's 103.00 QB rating that 1984 year, much less his 17-1 starting record. Even had Cavanaugh gotten by the Giants in the playoffs, he might not have gotten by the Bears, much less Miami? Even in 1986, when Buddy Ryan thought he could be the Eagles starting Q...

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions

Nat Moore was easily a HOVG receiver who could have had over 10,000 career receiving yards had he had more prolific throwers than Griese, Strock and Woodley. Even in 1986, he was still an effective receiver for Marino, soaking up coverage over the middle. If Mark Clayton enters the HOF, he needs to ...

Re: Ranking Third Overall NFL Draft Picks From 1967-2023

Interesting thread, though I need to go back to the other two ... its tough to rank or subjectively number the picks in terms of success. Sam Darnold is a great example on this list. He didnt have the best coaching and certainly didnt have weapons to work with in NY. Going to SF was a big step in hi...

RIP Dave McGinnis, former HC with Arizona and a trusted assistant with the Titans and Rams under Jeff Fisher, passed monday afternoon. Coach Mac ... to everyone who listened to his color commentary on Titans radio, was beloved throughout the community and great to listen to during game broadcasts, w...

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions

Bart Starr won both SBs and five other championship games but lost to the Eagles in 1960. Bradshaw won the four SBs like Montana but went 8-2 overrall in championship games. Montana went 8-3, losing to the 83 Redskins, 90 Giants and 93 Bills with KC.
