Tom Landry's Stats
I could be wrong, but I believe Tom Landry and his staff were among the first to truly track defensive statistics for their team. Tackles, sacks, passes defensed... Once the Cowboys started publishing their Bluebooks beginning in the early-1980's they included the coaching staff's statistics, but do...

Re: 1998
Speaking of 1998, its interesting reading about Kurt Warner. I have the Lindy's Pro Football Review magazine that doesnt list him on the depth chart but lists him being invited to the Ram's training camp along with London Fletcher at linebacker. Had these two players not shown something during that...

Re: Has anyone digitized old Street & Smiths and other publications
I am moving and have a few old Street & Smith annual FB guides. Has anyone digitized them and posted them online? Don't have much room to move some of these items. I also have a few old media guides and books I was hoping to unload. Enjoy these treasure troves: https://archive.org/details/@wwit...

Re: Favorite season in NFL history?
I think you’re being charitable about the “popularity” of the USFL. It was a novelty, and the ‘82 strike helped it in some markets, but it never reached mass popularity or even came close. Not so much that it got super popular but was enough of a force to disrupt a few key NFL drafts and effect tha...

What was the abbreviation for the Los Angeles teams?
Obviously football broadcasts didn't have the scorebug in the 1980's, but does anyone remember how the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Raiders were abbreviated? Was it RAM and RAI?

Re: Favorite season in NFL history?
The 1996 season was the first year I started watching football. As a 9-year-old growing up in Wisconsin, I obviously found football at the right time, so 1996 and 1997 will always be my nostalgia years. The 49ers and Cowboys were the decade's powerhouses, but the Packers finally broke through in tho...

Re: When you're drafted or when you're signed?
What if a player is drafted and signed but never plays a down for the team? If he is injured or cut before he plays a down do you still consider him "on the team?" Does it matter (to you) if he did or didn't play in the preseason? I'm leaning towards considering a player officially "...

Re: When you're drafted or when you're signed?
I always looked at it that a team has a player's rights when they are drafted, but that player is technically not on the roster until they sign a contract, thus they cannot participate in practices, games, etc. Basically, a team has dibs on the players they draft, put must still sign them to place ...

Re: When you're drafted or when you're signed?
Your rights go to that team immediately until and unless you are released, so that's another way to look at it. You're not anything else once you're drafted. You're that team's property - from an NFL personnel/rights perspective - whether you sign or not. Tod and John's replies had me sold, but thi...

When you're drafted or when you're signed?
Maybe you guys can help me with something I've been wrestling with... When players are drafted in today's NFL, it's immediately "Travis Hunter is a Jaguar!" or "Abdul Carter is a Giant!" But, historically, it wasn't always a forgone conclusion that a draft pick would sign with a ...
