Re: The 1999 Cleveland Expansion Team

I can't imagine being a lifelong Browns fan and seeing the decades-long run of success that the Ravens have had, knowing that should be *my* team. Here's the real question: if the team had not moved, would they have won the Super Bowl as the Cleveland Browns in 2000 and 2012? Is there anything about...

Can't miss, definitive seasons of each decade

Looking back on the 2000s, '90s, '80s, '70s, and so on, which seasons would you rank as the can't miss, definitive season of each decade? A season that was equal parts memorable on its own, while also playing a big part in defining the decade it was a part of. Two seasons instantly come to mind for ...

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions

Oh boy. Quarterbacked by the back-to-back league MVP. Offense scored the most points in the league. Defense surrendered the least amount of points in the league. Top-ranked defense in the league. Special teams had six return TDs including playoffs. That '96 team was lethal. The '97 Packers, on the ...

Re: How do you separate eras of the NFL?

1922-1949: I consider to be the "Iron Man" era. Leather helmets, players played both sides of the ball, classic rough and tumble football. 1950-1960: To me, this is when the game I recognize was formed. In 1950 the league allowed unlimited substitution, bringing about offensive and defensi...

Re: How do you separate eras of the NFL?

Ok it was 2009 when they started with the all pink breast cancer awareness stuff. I think it's awesome that they raised money for that if that's where that money truly went to. But this may belong more in the controversial opinions thread but I feel like it was just a corporate marketing ploy to go...

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions

The Packers took care of SF easily in the championship game and had beaten the Broncos 41-6 just the season before. The late-90's 49ers weren't as good as people thought. Their defense used to beat on weak sisters every year in a terrible division. Also, Elway didn't play in that 41-6 game, and TD ...

How do you separate eras of the NFL?

Everyone here is a history buff when it comes to the NFL. I'm curious how you look back on the history of the NFL and if you have your own eras that you divide the league up into, such as the 14-game era, the pre-free agency era, etc. Thought it'd be interesting to hear how different researchers vie...

Re: Are the Packers of recent memory underachievers?

I do think some onus has to be put on the quarterbacks. Maybe it's something about the small market of Green Bay and the hero worship that our MVP quarterbacks receive, but by the time Ron Wolf had left and Mike Sherman became Head Coach/General Manager I think Brett Favre was feeling pretty invinci...

Re: 1986 Cowboys vs 1986 Raiders

Good question, but I think the Raiders were the superior team. Their downfall in 1986 I'd imagine was more of a surprise than the Cowboys' as the Raiders I think still had a lot of life to their team. Danny White's injury and Tony Dorsett's age kind of signaled the inevitable end of the Cowboys' run.
