Re: When you're drafted or when you're signed?
Your rights go to that team immediately until and unless you are released, so that's another way to look at it. You're not anything else once you're drafted. You're that team's property - from an NFL personnel/rights perspective - whether you sign or not. Tod and John's replies had me sold, but thi...

When you're drafted or when you're signed?
Maybe you guys can help me with something I've been wrestling with... When players are drafted in today's NFL, it's immediately "Travis Hunter is a Jaguar!" or "Abdul Carter is a Giant!" But, historically, it wasn't always a forgone conclusion that a draft pick would sign with a ...

Re: 1982 NFL season - expectations as well as retrospect
I was 11 in 1982. I am a Packers fan and it always made me mad when I was younger that the Packers' lone playoff season of the 80s has been discounted as a strike fluke of sorts. I get it now that I'm older, but of the Packers teams from 1981-85 that largely went 8-8, I think the 1982 team was stil...

Re: What NFL season had the least clear favorite in the preseason?
I've been talking/thinking about the 2002 season a lot recently and got to believe that season falls into the topic of this thread. Going into a new division alignment, the best team in the NFL the Rams just got beat by the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Remembering now I just don't think people at th...

Re: 1982 NFL season - expectations as well as retrospect
Despite many great seasons starting again in ’83 through the remainder of 20th Century, it seems that NFL football took a slight step back after that notorious 9-game campaign, never to be quite up to par with ’81 and its preceeding years. Perhaps it then took yet another slight step back after ’87...

All-Madden teams?
Does anybody know where I can find the year-by-year All-Madden teams that John Madden would put out? The best I could find was John Turney's post from Pro Football Journal which listed Madden's first and last teams: https://nflfootballjournal.blogspot.com ... teams.html

Re: The Screwy Way the NFL Counts Tackles
I'm reviving this thread because I recently went down the rabbit hole of trying to understand how muffs/fumbles and solo/assisted tackles are scored. Let's start with tackles since that's what this thread is about. You know how gamebooks have TKL, AST, and COMB listed under defensive statistics? Up ...

Re: Will Now Be The Time For Jim Tyrer?
Look at Darren Sharper. He is probably a borderline HOF candidate but once he was found guilty of despicable acts, his name totally dropped off the HOF radar. Nobody is being removed from the HOF but people found guilty of heinous actions can be kept out. My comment is not for or against Tyrer. I a...
