Re: Centennial Class reflections

it enshrined some weird amalgam of second-tier moderns and undeserving relics. Your post sums it up really well. I especially like the line above. I actually like the idea of special committees ( in theory ), but I agree - we already know it wouldn't work in practice - we saw it with the centennial...

Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame question

@Jack, glad you made that mistake though. I had never seen the attachment you posted. Didn't realize Cusack was on that list. I nominated him for HOVG many years ago.

Re: Cleveland Indians/Bulldogs 1923-1927

Most of what's out there about Rosenblum seems basketball related, but this article ties him in to football as a 1927 investor - the year Cleveland brought in Friedman: https://case.edu/ech/articles/c/cleveland-bulldogs

Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame question

I think when we include the totality of his life in football he has a decent case for the Hall of Very Good. I agree. He'll have my vote next time. Post-scandal, things could have been even worse for pro football. He was one of the key figures in keeping the train on the tracks, and a good player i...

Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame question

When my research pulled me from western PA to Ohio, I thought Parratt was going to wind up being Ohio's Brailler, but he’s proving me wrong. Evidence supports Parratt as a top Ohio League player (1908 comes to mind so far), but similar to Sacksteder, the issue is the back position is so competitive....

Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame question

Great breakdowns! I think we elected them more for their places in history as pioneers than for what they did on the field. The entire exercise has been a work in progress. Thanks. Your HOF exercise is really interesting. I like it. Great thoroughness behind the idea of having the theoretical senio...

Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame question

The flaw in the exercise is that we can't meet to discuss, and there are a lot of voters, and I'm sure some people when researching players see, "Oh, he's actually in the Hall" and are inclined to vote for him. That makes sense. I can see the hesitancy to kick anyone out. I liked your lis...

Re: Dave Volsky's YouTube channel

Thanks John. He may have mentioned the license to me when we talked. I don't remember. I just checked NFL Films homepage and there is a licensing link.

Re: Dave Volsky's YouTube channel

NFL Films bought the Tel Ra pro football back catalogue around 1980. I think they paid $20K? This is why in the '80s we started to see those 1950s player profiles that pulled extensively from the Tel Ra footage. I don't remember the Cachiotti story about retrieving Tel Ra reels from the dumpster. I...
