Re: Pre-World War One nominees for 2025 class
For Shiring, one of our members, Gregg Ficery, wrote a book recently that's relevant: https://www.gridironlegacy.com Kerkhoff's Wikipedia entry is pretty strong: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herman_Kerkhoff It only lists a handful of secondary references, but I think one or more persons dug into pr...

Re: Punt out
Wasn't it also possible to lose the chance to even try the kick if the punt out was dropped?

Re: 2025 Hall of Very Good Finalists
That's a "Super Senior" explosion this year. Wow! It kind of feels like a win to see that list even if none of them get inJuggernautJ wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 1:29 am ..."Super Seniors."
There are a lot of them on this ballot....

Re: AAFC records now to be acknowledged by the NFL!
If not for the 1400 yard season, I don't think it would matter, but I hesitate to rank his '47 season with a comparable 1,000 yard season from a RB. To me, it isn't the same. Sanders was getting the snap directly several yards behind the LOS and the defense had to be wary of both the threat of the p...

Re: My 5 this years
Jack McBride, interesting choice. Does he get nominated often? Haven't seen him make a ballot. If Red Dunn couldn't get in, though, I can't imagine McBride having a better chance. McBride was ranked 39th in Chris Willis's new book and Dunn 40th, so it's really close. I've nominated both in the past...

Re: AAFC records now to be acknowledged by the NFL!
-A leading rusher I wasn't able to name. Can anyone guess without looking? Can't recall the exact spelling, but I think it's the guy whose last name starts with Stryz. You got it: Johnny Strzykalski: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/StrzJo00.htm My guess was Joe Perry :). I'd be lyi...

Re: AAFC records now to be acknowledged by the NFL!
The 1948 49ers would surpass the 2019 Ravens as the single season team rushing leader. Great catch on this. I took a closer look: -2 games less than the Ravens. -Most of it with under center handoffs (I think), no Lamar Jackson taking off on passing plays (Albert pitched in with 350, solid, but not...

Re: AAFC records now to be acknowledged by the NFL!
When looking at single season marks, the AAFC played 14 games and the NFL 12.

Re: My 5 this years
I've enjoyed this thread. It also helped me think through one of my choices. These were my 5:
Backs
John Gammons
Jack McBride
Linemen
George Christensen
Bob Shiring
Herman Kerkhoff
Christensen was already nominated, so I replaced him with Tommy Thompson.

Same here - I haven't been through enough game accounts from the '20s.JohnTurney wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 5:58 pm But I don't know who the "tough guys" were, the enforces like a jack Lambert or Jack Tatum, etc.
