Re: Something dumb that you remember about watching the NFL
"Black skin" is not the equivalent of "redskin." The exact equivalent is "n*gger." That said. The context matters on that too. Often enough it's a compliment. Agree or disagree on if it should be used that way, it is used that way. Not saying you are saying it one way ...

Re: Something dumb that you remember about watching the NFL
It's worthwhile to learn more about the "Native American Guardians Association," especially when people are trying to use its words to prop up an argument in favor of the name Redskins . It's a lobbying group founded less than a decade ago for the express purpose of "protecting"...

Re: Something dumb that you remember about watching the NFL
Read up on the word “redskin” and while I learned a few new things, one thing that was never mentioned was that the word referred to war paint. If there’s an objective source (not some team PR nonsense) that suggests otherwise, I’d be glad to stand corrected. Whatever the origin of the word, and wh...

Re: Something dumb that you remember about watching the NFL
Agree with the sentiment but their skin color wasn't red. Red referred to their war paint Not to be argumentative but how do you know that? Is there evidence contemporary to the naming that would show that to be the case? How do I know their skin wasn't red and that they wore red war paint? Those a...

Re: Something dumb that you remember about watching the NFL
I was born in 1985 and the only people I've ever considered calling Redskins were people like Mark Rypien and Joe Jacoby. The context to walk around calling native american people by that never even registered in my head. The thought of going up to anybody in real life and greeting them by their sk...

Re: Something dumb that you remember about watching the NFL
I'm not particularly fond of the name change either but "Redskins" was offensive to real-life, modern Amerinds. I have/had an American Indian friend who found the term very objectionable. She said she was OK with respectful Indian names like the Warriors (I have no idea of that name was c...

Re: 1981 NFL Draft broadcast by ESPN
I didnt stutter ... Lott had more impact than LT ... you can research all you want. I watched both play and while LT was a great pass rusher who could make plays everywhere, Lott did everything and could have been a great linebacker if the coaches put him there. He is the greatest defensive player ...

Re: Jimmy Hill
Jimmy Hill played in the NFL for 11 years but beyond the fact he played high school football at Booker T. Washington in Dallas in 1946 the rest of his "biographical" story is really a mystery. First, his college is always listed as Sam Houston State and that he played there in the late 19...
