The one change to the 2002 realignment I would make is flipping the Colts and Ravens.
All of the then-“new” teams in one division. All of the former NFL teams in a geographically sensible division.

Re: How do you separate eras of the NFL?
In my own head, not necessarily for historic purposes, I have it as follows. 1978-81: NFL as I experienced it first-hand as a kid. No franchise moves, just one stadium change (Rams to Anaheim). What I didn’t understand at the time was the rule change that helped define the era. Reasonable parity wit...

Re: Top ten players by yards per target 1978-1991
I’m sure this stat exists already, but receptions per game versus targets per game would be interesting.

Re: What's the least interesting divisional pairing?
Possibly something involving the Texans or Jaguars? Not to pick on those two, but they are the youngest teams. Also, when the Cardinals were in the NFC East, did they consider any of the other four teams rivals? I’m sure they considered Dallas and Washington as rivals. Whether Dallas or Washington ...

What's the least interesting divisional pairing?
Packers-Bears. Cowboys-Redskins. Browns-Steelers. Raiders-Chiefs. Those and countless other divisional rivalries fire up fans of those teams and maintain interest among fans of other teams. But what are the divisional rivalries that don't create much interest? Among long term divisional rivals, I ca...

Re: Are the Packers of recent memory underachievers?
Honestly I think it comes more down to defensive failures. From 1992 to 2024 the Packers have the best overall winning percentage in the regular season, .630. Second is Steelers at .627, who have a similar post season record verging on mediocrity. In the post-season since 1992, the Packers points s...

Re: Are the Packers of recent memory underachievers?
He won a Super Bowl obviously, and three MVP's that I don't see anyone typically debate, but the way he's talked about, if you didn't know you wouldn't think he ever did any of that. In my mind, there’s two distinct Favre eras. One with and without Mike Holmgren. Under Holmgren and his staff, he wa...

Ken Grandberry and Charlie Wade
Was watching some of the 1974 season highlights and one player who comes up every now and then is Bears running back Ken Grandberry. He led the Bears in rushing in 1974, albeit with a weak total of 475 rushing yards and 3.3 ypc, and then … never played in the NFL again. The assumption as far his car...

Re: Are the Packers of recent memory underachievers?
Speaking as a Packer fan, it’s a fair reputation. Favre years? Could easily have won another in ‘97 in a 50/50 Super Bowl. By ‘01-‘04-ish, those Packers teams compiled good records, but were flawed, and Favre was most flawed of all. I still get the willies when I think of that lame duck throw in OT ...

Jack Del Rio is another LB-turned-coach.
