Re: Has anybody been able to rewatch Super Bowl XII

John Facenda's opening sentence in his narration of the Super Bowl XII highlight film best sums up this game:"Right from the start Super Bowl XII was a coach's nightmare!!" This was also the first Super Bowl played indoors and Steve Sabol Jr. related in one feature that the artificial ligh...

Re: 1969 AFL Title Game Controversy

I have the NBC TV audio of that famous game (one of my favorites) and I don't believe the official who made the Taylor call was identified. Perhaps the Oakland or Kansas City newspaper game accounts might prove helpful. I thought Robinson got hurt running into one of the TV cameras near the sideline...

Re: 1974 Cowboys

Hard to say which was the worse loss, the home loss to the Giants or the 13-10 loss to Philly on MNF. It always seemed ironic to me to have one of the worst losses in team history in the same season as one of its most memorable victories, the Hail Mary win over the archrival Redskins on Thanksgiving...

Re: Worst single-season AFL Team

The 1963 trade for Art Powell helped the Raiders shed themselves of their doormat status. It was typical of Al Davis...bringing what would become the Raiders' trademark 'long bomb' attack to Oakland. Those 1961-1962 Raiders teams were just horrific. I think the expansion 1968 Cincinnati Bengals woul...

Re: 1960 Colts collapse

Realized my mistake about 5 minutes after I posted. Then the computer died. I mixed up 2 different interviews with 2 different Colts players. It was the great and always entertaining Artie Donovan that offered the comment on the 1960 Colts. It wasn't the main reason for our talk so I just tossed it ...

Re: 1960 Colts collapse

In the late 1990s I had a chance to meet and talk with the great Colts TE John Mackey. After I teased him a bit about his 'double' tipped TD reception in SB V I brought up the subject of the 1960 Colts who were going for the three-peat. When I asked him about the collapse he paused for a few seconds...

Re: Roy Jefferson questions

If memory serves he played a prominent role as one of the player reps during the player's preseason strike in 1974. His picture was in the Sports Illustrated article on the strike that August. Looking back it is amazing how much animosity there was by teams to player reps during the era, especially ...

Re: Changing postions. Suh to Rams (maybe) to 3-4 def

I almost forgot Kansas City's E.J.Holub, longtime Chiefs linebacker who Hank Stram moved to center to save his fragile knees. He started SB I at LB and SB IV at center, I believe the only player to start a Super Bowl game on defense and then on offense. Can anyone think of anyone else??

Re: Changing postions. Suh to Rams (maybe) to 3-4 def

The great Wash Redskins WR Charlie Taylor played in the backfield his first 2 seasons, ran the ball 199 times his rookie year of 1964. I heard he was so fast he outran his blockers and that's why Otto Graham moved his outside. Tom Landry tried to play Randy White at LB for much of his early career b...
